Classic Whitewater Rafting Trip

Overview
The highlight of your vacation! This a 17-foot self-bailing raft that provides a fun splashy ride while providing enough stability to handle the Snakes Class bigger rapids with ease, and allowing you to feel safe while you enjoy the experience. You'll paddle through the legendary Snake River Rapids, including Lunch Counter, Big Kahuna, Champagne and Ropes. Rafts launch at West Table and take out at Sheep Gulch in the Snake River Canyon. It's 8 miles of Class II and III whitewater interspersed with calm stretches, even some opportunities to swim. Trips take 3 1/2 to 4 hours round-trip from our office at 180 Powderhorn Ln in Jackson. Whitewater rafting with Lewis & Clark is the genuine interactive outdoor adventure you came to Jackson Hole to experience. Most of our customers are first-timers and it's suitable for ages 6+. If you're looking for the max in adventure check out Lewis & Clark's small boat, smallest raft on the Snake. Private rafts are available, call to book.

What To Expect

Snake River Canyon
Please check in to our office at 180 Powderhorn Lane in Jackson 1/2 hour before your trip time. After checking in you will have access to restrooms and dressing rooms to prepare for your trip. Once your bus departs our office, it takes about 35 minutes to reach the "put-in" at West Table Creek Ramp on the Snake River. There are dressing rooms and pit toilets at the ramp. Our guides will be at the ramp to meet you and help you get into your gear, including life jackets and free, optional splash jackets. After your ramp orientation, you will launch and begin your 8-mile trip on the river. These 8 miles can take anywhere from just under an hour at high water to two hours very late in the season, depending on flows. Once at the take-out you walk up to your bus which will be parked near the restrooms and dressing rooms. There, you can retrieve dry clothing and change before riding back to Jackson. The bus ride home takes about 45 minutes.

One of the best rafting trips we've been on to date! We had such a great time on the Snake River, and our guide, Tye, was very knowledgeable, friendly, fun and safe. Would definitely recommend this company!

It's always great to get the perspective of folks who've rafted lots of other places. Many thanks.

We booked through Lewis and Clark based on TA reviews, and are happy we did. Our guide, Collin, was very good. I believe his main goal was to keep us safe. He also worked to ensure a fun trip; but not flipping or losing a passenger (especially our youngsters) was his main goal. We had a great time, got soaked (like we expected), and we definitely recommend L & C Expeditions whitewater trips. I do want to “warn” (and let owners know), that you may receive a message 48 hours ahead of your trip that the waters are very high, and the age for children to ride might be raised. Included in the message was, “If you have children 12 or under, please call our office so we can discuss the ramifications for your family.” (Ours are 9 & 11) We were in Yellowstone with very limited cell service when we got the message. It scared me, because we had already let them know that our daughter was very anxious and scared of big rapids. It was after hours, so I emailed back saying we assumed the message meant we were best off not going. Soon after, I received a message that (seemed like all of a sudden?) the river had dropped and we would be fine, so no cancellation necessary. Because of our concern for our daughter, we also called the next day when we had some cell service and were basically told that everything would be fine. We ended up going on the trip and it was wonderful, although pretty big rapids compared to the other trip we have been on. Everything worked out fine in the end, but I was very nervous for the 48 hours leading up to the trip because of receiving the email. Hopefully, management looks into the possibility of not sending out this email in the future when it is not necessary.

As I write this (June 24), high water season has ended and we are in normal operating conditions for the rest of the season. We're very glad that it all worked our for you to go (and have it be wonderful) We always want our customers to be informed. Many make reservations weeks or months in advance when we cannot anticipate conditions. We feel it's a good service to send these automated emails during high water to keep people informed and facilitate communication. Far better than to have someone walk into the office at trip time and be given bad news. This third week of June presented unprecedented challenges with predicting river flows. Over a ten day period, the river dropped from 21000 cfs to 14,000, then rose again back up to 21,000, at one point rising 3,000 dfs in just 12 hours.Like nothing I've seen in 24 years. We only want our guests to be informed. It's natural for mothers to be concerned about these trips and we take it very seriously and try to offer opportunities for dialogue at every turn.
