Adventure through Shell Key Preserve in your 100% clear kayak! See crystal-clear water, diverse marine life, and the underwater world below your clear kayak.

You’ll paddle along mangroves, enjoy white sand beaches and sandbars, and explore a secluded beach. If the tide is high, your guide will lead the way through a hidden mangrove tunnel. Shell Key Preserve is located in Tierra Verde, FL near St. Pete Beach in the Tampa Bay area.

Keep your eyes peeled for dolphins, manatees, pelicans, crabs, and more while enjoying the preserve’s picturesque mangroves, beaches, and sandbars. Be on the lookout for a manatee or the beautiful pink Roseate Spoonbills in the summer months. White Pelicans call the sandbars of Shell Key Preserve their home during the winter months! Throughout the year, dolphins frolic in the crystal-clear waters and cormorants love to swim alongside your kayak. Chances are that you’ll see a variety of wildlife, but sightings are random and not guaranteed.

Ben was an excellent guide, and was very knowledgable about the area. We had some strong winds, and Ben was able to keep the group together, and navigate us well. Thanks for the tour of the area!

The guide was very knowledgeable. The boats weren't really kayaks; they were small canoes. Therefore it is best to wear a bathing suit; you will get wet. We didn't see any manatees, probably because the tide was out and the water level was therefore very low. Before signing up for this trip, check to make sure that the trip is around high tide. Aquatic animals might be more prevalent then.

Hello, Thank you for your feedback! During the winter months, we unfortunately do not have manatees at Shell Key Preserve because they migrate into areas where the water is warmer. Although, we typically see dolphins, birds, crustaceans, and more throughout our tour! We do operate tours at both low and high tide and are always happy to let guests know which tide level best coincides with the adventure they're looking for - low tide is great for shelling, birding, and seeing bottom-dwelling wildlife while high tide we paddle through mangrove tunnels and commonly see dolphins! We're sorry you didn't get to see manatees this time of year, as they have already migrate elsewhere but hope you enjoyed learning about the ecosystems of Shell Key from your guide along the paddle!

Bria was an awesome guide. She pointed out all varieties of birds and took us through a mangrove tunnel. Lots of fun. I would recommend this tour if you are traveling near St. Pete's.
