I always pick up a bunch of group on deals when they are available and then use them when friends and family have come down to visit us (we live in Clearwater). This past Sunday we took my cousin on the boat tour since she is visiting for her spring break. We had the best experience and I just felt compelled to come write a review. First, we always love being on the boat, whether we see dolphins or not. In the past we had a trip where we only saw a few fins in the distance (which we've seen on our own at the beach) and another trip where we saw nothing (and were given vouchers to come back and try again). We understand it's totally unpredictable and just enjoy being at sea and having some drinks and relaxing. Well this was our first time actually seeing the dolphins up close and it was such an amazing experience. Our captain and the captain of another tour boat (Little Toot) worked together to kick up some waves and see if the dolphins would swim in their wakes and the dolphins DID! It was such an amazing sight and we ended up spending at least 45 minutes just going around in circles following the dolphins as they swam around. We even got to see Hulk Hogan speed by in his boat and he waved to us! :) We got so many great photos and have lasting memories. The captain was hilarious and really made the trip 10xs better with his enthusiasm! The staff on board were all great too. The Tropics Boat Tours will always be my go-to tour company when family comes to visit. I've had several great experiences with them so far and am looking forward to many more!! Thanks Tropics!! *Helpful tip, bring cash for tipping the staff. They work hard and deserve it. If you don't bring cash, add the tip on before the trip when you pay with your card.

I have to say that parking at Clearwater Beach on the weekend after 9 a.m. is rediculous. Wound up having to pay $20 for lot parking across the road from Tropics Boat Tour. The tour to Caledesi Island is only on Saturday and Sunday at 2:15 p.m. The boat trip lasts about 3 hours and of that we saw dolphins for about 4 minutes. We had a Living Social voucher for $13 per person and the price includes one free drink, beer wine or soda per person. It was hard to distinguish the P.A. system but the people at the tour office and the crew of the boat were very friendly. For those of us that live in Florida, the tour is probably mundane. For visitors to Florida for the first time it would probably be interesting. There is a 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tour where they take you to Caladesi Island and drop you off and pick you up 6 hours later. Caladesi Island is a world class beach with kayak/canoe rental, "shelling", bird watching, etc. That tour is $60 per adult I believe and would be a nice day's enjoyment for any beach lover. You can canoe/kayak through the mangroves though the water clarity leaves much to be desired.

Recently bought some Groupon tickets for a Tropics Boat Dolphin tour. Price was very good and we like visiting the Clearwater Beach area. The pier for Tropics is ultra-convenient, directly adjacent to the Clearwater Beach traffic rotary and a short walk from the main beach area. This makes it an excellent afternoon cap-off to a Clearwater beach day. The actual "tour" is basically a ride out of the Clearwater harbor and a loop along the Clearwater beach front. There is a dolphin nesting area a few miles north of the Clearwater pier. We stopped at the known dolphin "hangout" and were treated to a close-up view of a very active school of adults and babies. Mission accomplished. The added bonus on this tour is a nice view of the Clearwater shorefront and harbor front homes. The crew is very friendly, boat has a very decent sound system and a nice selection of beverages is available. Not a lot of frills here, but Tropics delivers exactly what they advertise. Definitely worth the ticket price.
