Going to Colonial Williamsburg during a pandemic, in December, while its raining, is not going to be the same experience as you would have during sunnier times. Arriving at the visitor center, there were approximately 4 guests in a facility the size of a shopping mall, with 10 ticket takers waiting patiently in their booths. Colonial Williamsburg itself, a fairly long, but pleasant, walk away from the Visitor Center - had roughly 20 or 30 staff and reenactors spread throughout and was about half or 2/3 closed. Even so, the reenactors outnumbered guests. The ticket prices were reduced to reflect this reality. We were able to see the Governor's Mansion, Courthouse, Capitol Building, blacksmith, carpenter's yard, a historic house, armory, and several shops selling souvenirs. Be aware, many of the buildings are reconstructions - made in the historic style by carpenters on-site. Staff were universally pleasant despite the circumstances and there were few large groups to be worried about indoors. Some day, I'd like to come back to see the full experience, but it was kind of nice to quietly stroll and have the place nearly to ourselves.

Even during the pandemic they are making an effort to expose you to all classes of colonial like. The trades people may not have their small shops open but they have them in other locations. Take advantage of Meet a Nation Builder on Charlton stage - we had 30+ min of the Marquis de Layfayette - and he was worth the price of admission alone. We also paid for the walking tour and got 45+ min with Abrahm, a slave in the Wythe household. So you see like from all perspectives. The good news about it being reduced capacity, closed attractions, and limited tours (first floor only) is that you can accomplish it in one day.

Outdoor setting allowed distance for Covid concerns. Williamsburg is a lovely village. It's an important part of American history.
