This was my second trip to WIlliamsburg, and it was a mild 65 degree, sunny weekday, an almost if not the perfect day for a visit here. Being a weekday, even though a holiday for some, it was lightly trafficked. Arriving late morning, the parking lot had plenty of parking spaces. A gentle stroll into the Visitor's Center, with some pauses for the displays and scenery, we made it to the center of the building for almost immediate help with getting admitted. Hint: save yourself some more time by getting your tickets online. While you're at it, check out the Williamsburg Gardens brochure that's online, as it includes a map plus indicates what flowers are in bloom when, when garden tours are, and a map of the grounds. Pick a starting point: for us, it was near the Governor's Palace, and we worked our way around clockwise.
On the front of the building is where the shuttle buses pick you up. If the bus is starting to pull out, you just might get lucky as we were that I made sure that I would be in their right-side mirror so that, just in case they looked back as our driver did, we'd get on the bus. No worry, the buses run frequently, and it was a nice day!
If you miss the bus, that gives you time to make a gander at the map and, perhaps more importantly, when the various events are being held. One doesn't have to see everything to enjoy one's visit. Two aspects that I particularly enjoyed was a historical speech being given outside to a gathering of onlookers that we happened to walk by and the mock court trial, which was fun as well as educational.
