We had a decent day to set out from Valdez on Stan Stephen's Glacier and Wildlife Cruise, unfortunately, due to the amount of ice in the water, we were not able to get close to Columbia Glacier. We did, however, see lots of wildlife: sea otters, harbor seals, stellar sea lions, dall's porpoises, and a humpback whale; we also saw lots of birds: kittiwakes, horned puffins, tufted puffins, cormorants and jaegers.

My wife and I did the cruise on 25 Aug 2019. The day was a bit drizzly and gloomy but everything else was amazing. We watched some wildlife along the way. For us the highlight was when we got close to the glacier. There were thousands of chunks of ice or bergs floating in the water that made for a spectacular scenary. The captain provided an excellent commentry. Rest of the staff were also very helpful. Another good thing on this boat was the free access to captains cabin. On that day we could get up to 2 miles from the glacier enough to see it. Beyond that the conditions were quite dengerous. The captain used all his skills to take us as close as possible. We will highly recommend anyone who considers to include Valdez in their Alaska itinerary to do this cruise.

We enjoyed the Mears Glacier cruise with Stan Stephens Cruises we went back the next day and took the Columbia Glacier Cruise out of Valdez. Again, the boat was well equipped and comfortable. The staff outstanding, and the Captain was very informative. Was well worth doing as the glacier is amazing!
