Columbia Gorge Hike, Wine, & Discover

Overview
The 85-mile (137-km) long Columbia Gorge NSA would be a national park if it weren't a critical transportation corridor. It features waterfalls, mountains, monoliths, terraces, resort towns, vineyards, orchards, and The River, harboring a plethora of fish and birds, and a community of plants and invertebrates that changes dramatically going from the west end to the east end. Overlapping this is the Columbia Gorge AVA, the lovechild of the Columbia Valley and Willamette Valley AVAs. You will get intimate with The Gorge through hiking, wine tasting, and a visit to the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum. Your guide will teach you about the natural history, cultural history, and wine background of the area. The guide will feel out the groupā€™s physical abilities and tastes in choosing 1 to 3 hikes and 2 wineries. We cover lunch, you cover tasting fees. *We are the only operator in Portland who has sneeze guards between the rows in our vehicle.*

What To Expect
1
Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
There are a variety of hikes we can do in the Gorge; through rainforest to cathedral waterfalls, across dry grasslands growing on dramatic basalt terraces, up the cliffs of the fifth-largest free-standing monolith in the world, through fire-scarred slopes, and many more. It all depends on what you fancy, our own whim that day, and the time of year.
2
Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum
Peruse this museum of Columbia Gorge natural and cultural history.
3
Multnomah Falls
See the tallest, and most famous, waterfall in Oregon along with it's historic lodge and bridges.
4
Columbia River Highway
This stunning 74-mile (119 -km) highway that was inspired by the Axenstrasse in the Swiss Alps.
5
Sunshine Mill Winery
This 130-year-old mill was once used to mill wheat for the Cheez-It! The only designated skyscraper in the Columbia Gorge, it was the first building in The Dalles to have electricity, and still contains the original Thomas Edison Motor by which it was powered. It is now a winery & restaurant.

My thanks to Marcus for guiding our travels through the Columbia River Gorge. We hiked to Laterelle Falls which was a beautiful hike (even for this 'older' lady!). We appreciated the stories of the area--historical and geological--Marcus is an excellent guide and experienced naturalist. Our stops were in places we truly enjoyed and would not have found without his knowledge of the area. I highly recommend this tour and Terran Travels!

Thank you for the great review, Kristi! I greatly appreciate you and Philip being such great guests on my maiden voyage of that tour. I enjoyed the conversation, and good job on the hiking! P.S. Thanks for the pic!
