The check-in process was friendly and efficient, though it didn't take 30 minutes, and the staff was encouraging us to shop for logo wear while waiting. It was annoying that we had to pay $5 to park in the lot adjacent to the heliport. For the steep price of the tour, they could have thrown in the parking fee! Staff assigned us specific seats so there wasn't any scrambling for the "best seat". It's a small helicopter and there were 4 seats in the back and 2 in the front, plus the pilot. I had the right rear seat and was able to take ~300 shots with my professional camera during the tour, though some of them have parts of the helicopter intruding into the frame. I would have paid extra to be guaranteed one of the front seats! We boarded exactly on time after a staff member snapped our pictures in front of the copter. Captain Kirk was friendly and informative and addressed each of us by name numerous times during the tour. He did repeat himself a couple of times, so it seems he has given this same tour many, many times. We climbed straight away up above cloud cover to the rim of the crater, then descended nearer the coast line as we approached the rain forest. We flew into a particularly breathtaking gorge with waterfalls plunging hundreds of feet down the walls of greenery. We flew over pools and waterfalls and the Road to Hana. We flew over the north shore and then up into the "wall of tears", a beautiful gorge with 17 waterfalls. Then back to the heliport. We did NOT fly over the west coast or Kaanapali, thus the "complete island" description of the tour doesn't seem completely accurate. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful tour and the weather mostly cooperated with us. Though there were clouds here and there, they didn't seem to impair our visibility of the most sought-after sights on the island. I could have stayed up there several more hours - if it wasn't so costly.
