Corning Museum of Glass
Showcasing more than 3,500 years of glassmaking history, the Corning Museum of Glass features nearly 50,000 pieces of classic and contemporary glass art and objects. See works ranging from a small Egyptian pharaoh head to an enormous Tiffany window, and discover the wonder and artistry behind glassmaking. Explore the stunning day-lit Contemporary Art + Design Wing, which houses the best of the last 25 years in glass, and a 500-seat Amphitheater Hot Shop, a space dedicated to live glass demos and design sessions. See glass created before your eyes during a live, narrated Hot Glass Demo, and be inspired to experience glassmaking for yourself during a Make Your Own Glass workshop, with projects for all ages. Choose from fused picture frames and suncatchers, sandblasted drinking glasses, flameworked beads, pulled-glass flowers, delicate blown ornaments, and seasonal projects (additional fee). You can also search the gift shops for handmade glass treasures or grab a bite at the museum cafe. Totally enjoyed the museum. Enjoyed the cafe. Very disappointed with majority of the items in gift shop were made in China. Also not enough Corning Ware. Would have purchased several items.

Wow! I've been to glass museums before, but this was beyond my expectations. Starting with the best hot shop demonstration I've ever seen, we loved our time here. The displays were excellent and went well beyond decorative art glass. We enjoyed seeing how so many products incorporate glass and are used in ways many people wouldn't expect. The glass breaking demo was terrific, the art exhibits were wonderful and the gift shop is second to none!

We are truly thrilled to hear our museum surpassed your expectations! We try our best to provide a wide breadth of options for visitors including various live demonstrations, a collection of contemporary to ancient to even scientific glass, and even our selection in the gift shop. It sounds like we did that for you. Hopefully you considered becoming a Member to return all year for free and get 15% off in the gift shop! Thank you for your review.

We fully enjoyed our visit to the Corning Museum of Glass! We could only get there for one day so unfortunately didn't "make and take" a glass project.. needs to be picked up the next day or shipped and it was going to add $45 US to the bill for shipping equalling approx $100. Canadian... we bought something from the gift shop instead! We absolutely loved the demos and the contemporary pieces but could have spent another hour or more in the museum section (teenagers loved the demos and the modern glass...but in the museum part they ran out of "steam" = bored 😅). Husband and I will go back solo for 2 days at this world class museum next time for sure, including some time in the lovely town of Corning!

Thanks for visiting and for leaving a review. We try to have a range of offerings from 35 Centuries of Glass in our galleries to our Innovation Center to live demonstrations to appeal to almost anyone's interests, and it sounds like that your family really enjoyed all of those. If you're looking for a "make and take" option for Make Your Own Glass, reserving a sandblasting appointment will be your best choice as you can take the project home with you right after as it does not need to anneal (cool down) overnight. Next time you visit try your hand at making glass and create your own unique, handmade souvenir. For travelers who are looking to spend a few days in area, remember that we have several hotel partners in the area that include museum admission in their overnight. We are looking forward to seeing you and your husband again!
