Showcasing more than 3,500 years of glassmaking history, the Corning Museum of Glass features nearly 50,000 pieces of classic and contemporary glass art and objects. See works ranging from a small Egyptian pharaoh head to an enormous Tiffany window, and discover the wonder and artistry behind glassmaking. Explore the stunning day-lit Contemporary Art + Design Wing, which houses the best of the last 25 years in glass, and a 500-seat Amphitheater Hot Shop, a space dedicated to live glass demos and design sessions. See glass created before your eyes during a live, narrated Hot Glass Demo, and be inspired to experience glassmaking for yourself during a Make Your Own Glass workshop, with projects for all ages. Choose from fused picture frames and suncatchers, sandblasted drinking glasses, flameworked beads, pulled-glass flowers, delicate blown ornaments, and seasonal projects (additional fee). I enjoyed all of the demonstrations. The assistants described the processes step by step and answered any questions.

This was our second time there, I love looking at the different displays, it can be overwhelming. Sparkle was wonderful. I was disappointed that I didn’t get to blow a pumpkin for $33.00, it was a nice size but I could buy one at $30 that was very small. Okay just so you know I’m a glass pumpkin junkie and there weren’t enough there to choose from. Overall the staff was wonderful and it’s the best thing to do on a rainy day.

We spent about 7 hours in Corning today, about 4 of that at this museum. A picture of the building exterior is attached. The 7 hours included a lunch break at Nine Elephants (see separate review) that we walked across the river to get to. During that time my wife got to make (assist making a glass blown pumpkin, picture attached). There is an extensive array of glass art, sculptures, paperweights, and etc. (several pictures inside the museum are attached). To me 2 hours at this museum would have been enough, but not for my wife and the other couple we were with!
