Curated Tour - National Gallery of Art with French Art Historian

Overview
Instead of wandering purposelessly in the National Gallery of Art, Tosca will lead you into an in-depth visit of the museum’s history and its masterpieces. You have heard of Raphael, Da Vinci, Titian, Rembrandt, Monet but do you really know their lives and why they are seen as geniuses? We’ll dive into the lives of the great masters as we wander the rooms of the NGA.
We’ll go from the only Da Vinci in America before seeing Monet’s “Japanese Footbridge” to witness the different styles and evolutions in art. You’ll be armed with the information and history that you’ll need to appreciate the works of art on display.

Art with Tosca offers tours of cultural institutions in Washington D.C and online lectures about art history. Tosca brings you an extensive knowledge about European Art history having studied and lived between Paris, London and Italy.

Tosca is an absolute gem of a storyteller. She will curate a bespoke set of art (particular to your interests and familiarity) and walk you through their stories—from an artwork’s creation and the socioeconomic / cultural circumstances of the times, to its thematic composition, to how it got to the National Gallery (in DC of all places). She is extremely knowledgeable and interactive, but most importantly, she does this with an incredible sense of humor. The “tour” is less of a tour and more so an energized, intelligent conversation, and Tosca is less of a “guide” and more so your college art history professor plus your favorite dinner party guest, all in one! Be sure to let her know in advance which types of art or time periods interest you. Our tour was mostly on the Italian Renaissance, although we mixed in some Rembrandt towards the end of the tour.

Tosca’s tour was AMAZING! Usually, art tours make it difficult for visitors to understand (and let’s be honest, often they’re super boring), but Tosca knows how to mix fun facts and historical details and to explain them at the audience’s eye level. Thanks to Tosca, I was able to get closer to Renaissance art! And as someone who’s been to the Met and MoMA in New York and the National Gallery in London (and took guided tours in all three), this was the best gallery tour I've ever participated in!

My college daughter and I loved the tour. We have both studied art history and our guide gave us new information we hadn't learned before. She asked what types of work we would enjoy seeing a few days before our tour.
