After a careful internet search of the various whale and dolphin tours, we selected Captain Dave's out of Dana Point. I was hoping to see the orcas spotted recently, but only saw one small, probably male, grey whale. The staff made sure we had a good look, without endagnering or frightening the whale away. What really made the difference was seeing many pods of dolphins-watching them cavort in the waves and swim under the boat was fun and exciting. Even though we did not see many whales, the staff tried their best to entertain us and educate us about the varoius whales and dolphins. It was a very scenic trip as well, and I was glad we chose to tour out of Dana Point.

Last month I took a tour with Capt. Dave's Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari and thoroughly enjoyed myself. When I had an opportunity to travel back to Dana Point this weekend I took full advantage of my 1 day there. I took back to back to back (3 trips) with the company. Each was different than the other and Blue Whales were seen on all three trips! On the first trip one came right up to the boat and then under it! On the last trip we encountered a breaching HUMPBACK! My first and last trip was on the Manutea and the 2nd was on the smaller - Dolphin Safari. The latter gives you an up close and personal view of the marine life since it is a much smaller boat. The crew on both boats are incredible. They are very knowledgeable of the marine life in the area and where to find it. Kudos also go out to the office staff. I was greeted with a personalized sign welcoming me back! Gotta love that. If you are into whales this is the place to be. Do yourself a favor and follow them on Facebook or their updates on sightings on their webpage to manage your expectations. Note that they also give discounts for repeat customers! WIN WIN WIN!!

In mid August our family sought out a whale watching tour in the Dana Point/San Diego area and settled upon Capt. Dave's Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari. Numerous reviews of the tour gave us confidence this would be a reasonably solid tour. We were not disappointed - the entire experience exceeded our expectations from ticket purchase to the nearly 3 hours we spend on the ocean. The staff was very gracious and they worked exceptionally hard to find dolphins and whales. These creatures are free to roam the vast ocean so there is no guarantee of seeing anything but through their effort we saw over 1200 dolphin and 3 blue whales. The vessel we toured on was very comfortable and also had the added perk of underwater observation windows where viewers could watch the dolphins swimming alongside the vessel. Very cool. To top it of, upon the tours end we were treated to brownies and cookies to send us on our way. Highly recommend Capt. Daves Safari.
