Pershing Park - World War I Memorial

The National World War I Memorial is a national memorial commemorating the service rendered by members of the United States Armed Forces in World War I. The 2015 National Defense Authorization Act authorized the World War I Centennial Commission to build the memorial in Pershing Park, located at 14th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. The park, which has existed since 1981, also contains the John J. Pershing General of the Armies commemorative work. In January 2016, the design commission selected the submission "The Weight of Sacrifice", by a team consisting of Joseph Weishaar, Sabin Howard, Phoebe Lickwar, and GWWO Architects, as the winning design,[1] which is expected to be completed by 2024.[2]

Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial

Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Located to the south of the National Mall, the national memorial is set in a park-like plaza, with large columns framing a mesh tapestry depicting the site of the Normandy landings, and sculptures and bas-reliefs arrayed in the park. Architect Frank Gehry designed the memorial and Sergey Eylanbekov sculpted the bronze statues of Eisenhower in various settings. The memorial's tapestry artist was Tomas Osinski, and the inscription artist, Nicholas Waite Benson. On October 25, 1999, the United States Congress created the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission, and charged it with creating "...an appropriate permanent memorial to Dwight D. Eisenhower...to perpetuate his memory and his contributions to the United States." The preliminary design proved controversial. After several years of hearings and several design changes by Gehry, final design approvals were given in 2017, when dignitaries held a groundbreaking ceremony at the four-acre site.

The company should cancel day tours if it’s a holiday, knowing before hand that the streets will be barricaded. We essentially made one stop out of eight. Total waste of time and money( at least on the day I took the tour)

They should have done their research and not booked any tours that day as the roads were blocked off because of memorial day weekend. Plus the driver was NOT a tour guide. His temperament was not good at all. Almost had 2 collisions, please do not use this tour company.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Signed up for the full day tour. 4 hours of monuments. 4 hours for Mt Vernon. The day started off fine went to White House snapped some photos left there about 30 minutes after tour started. Went to go to the memorials. Could not get to the memorials due to traffic with Memorial Day weekend. Understandable. Driver took us impromptu to the marine corps memorial on the other side of the river. However, next thing I know we’re sitting in a lot of traffic. I looked at Google maps and the tour guide seemed to be taking every single way that was backed up when there are alternative routes. Next thing I know it is 2pm after 3 hours of traffic and we’re back at the pick up spot. We went to 2 memorials! Out of the 15+ we were supposed to drive by or stop at. There were 8 stops approximately on the list. We went to 1/8!! When we arrived back at the pick up EVERYONE was confused like how is it over. We were told to get off ask for a refund or reschedule if possible. That’s it. One of the drivers of the tour bus (there were 2 busses staying together) actually was being aggressive with customers and with other drivers just by the hotel where we were picked up! It was crazy he was getting up in peoples faces/hitting cars trying to leave. Then for the second part tour Mt Vernon. We decided after witnessing the aggression and not seeing anything already to forgo and request a refund. There was supposed to be 4 hours down to the area, we instead went to eat lunch next to the pickup spot. Surprisingly, the bus was back within an hour with auto issues. So thank goodness we decided not to go otherwise would have been wasting time and missing another event that evening! They knew it was a holiday and have been giving tours for a while. If they knew it would be too busy for a tour they shouldn’t have the dates available. It was not on us customers. Horrible company, horrible customer service! Do not recommend!!
