Overview

Talkeetna has skyscrapers of granite and ice instead of steel. Denali, Mt. Hunter and Mt. Foraker tower above the other peaks of the Alaska Range, forming our northern horizon. Cruise up the Kahiltna glacier, right over the climbers’ base camp at 7,200 ft., and wind between these giant peaks catching breathtaking views of Denali above and Denali's most popular climbing route, the West Buttress Route below.

What To Expect

K2 Aviation

Explore the wonders of Denali! Please check in for your flight 30 minutes before scheduled departure time or schedule a complimentary transfer from your local hotel, inn, B&B, or rail depot. Before taking flight, take part in a short safety briefing. You’ll then be off on your 1.25 hour scenic flight of Denali or 1.75 hour flight and glacier landing.

Denali National Park and Preserve

View the vertical rise of Denali starting at its base of around 2000 feet to over 20,320 feet. Explore the most-climbed, western face of Denali and an additional massive glacier system, the Kahiltna. Then fly East and take in the flowing river of the Ruth Glacier, the renowned Sheldon Amphitheater (glacier landings often done here), the Great Gorge with its mile high granite walls - the world's deepest, and the intense blue melt water pools that dot the glaciers. With a guaranteed window seat, you can sit back and relax as you enjoy the incredible views. A two way headset is provided so you can communicate with your expert pilot as he/she shares incredible commentary along the way.

When we arrived at K2 we were disappointed to learn that because of low cloud and changeable weather conditions we would not be able to land on the glacier. We were given a range of options and decided to go on the Denali Flyer. It was the best decision we have made as the flight under pilot Randy was the smoothest ever and his expert skills enabled us to see all the major glaciers while flying above and below cloud and what seemed right next to sheer cliff faces. We even caught views of the mighty Mount Denali.

because the weather wasn't complying, I did get the chance do to the whole tour I had signed up for. K2 told me to come back a bit later to see if the weather improved enough to be able to fly. When I came back the weather was slightly better but not enough to do the originally chosen tour. K2 offered a choice between a refund or taking another tour and refunding me the difference. I chose to fly and didn't regret it. Pilot was good and funny. The views eventhough the weather was not perfect were still absolutely spectacular. Really worth it.

Worth every penny! We chose the “Denali flyer with glacier landing”. On our flight day, there wasn’t enough visibility to do the whole trip or the glacier landing, so they refunded us to the basic package, and we got a shorter flight. Our flight was amazing!! Truly a once in a lifetime experience. I was nervous beforehand but our pilot was so skilled, the take off and landing were so smooth. The was also a great tour guide and told us lots of interesting things. We were on a land tour with Princess, but we booked the flight directly with k2, which was much cheaper than booking through Princess.
