Overview

Looking over the edge of a vertical cliff get ready to shout, 'ON RAPPEL!' Join up to nine other fellow adventurers on a six hour tour into the heart of a Sonoran Desert canyon. This 'choose your way' adventure will have you wading through desert plant life, rock hopping down a dry stream bed, wiggling your way under house size boulders, testing your problem solving skills on down climbing puzzles, and taking a leap of faith over a 150ft foot jaw dropping rappel.

I can't say enough good things about this trip. The owner was really nice, knowledgeable, and has many years of experience. His daughter came on this trip and she was a really nice, adorable, and well mannered 11 year old! If you are fit and have a sense of adventure, you will not regret this trip. I have never done a trip like this before where you do a whole trip in the water through a canyon and then a short hike at the end. I saw many waterfalls (brown waterfalls! but still beautiful) ! A beginner in canyoneering or rock climbing can also do this trip. The canyon is beautiful. I wore sports bra, long sleeve/long pants active wear under my wet suit. I highly recommend the wet suit. Even the owner wore a wet suit. I wore my snowboarding socks because they are wool and I wore my hiking/trail running ankle shoe because it helps with traction on the rocks. I didn't take a wool hat or gloves and I was fine with just their helmet (but I did get a mild sun burn on my exposed hands, neck, and face and rocks are pretty smooth and I didn't get cut). I took a small camelback and I was able to tuck my wetsuit behind my back to carry it in and out of the canyon, but I should have brought a bigger pack because my dry bag for my lunch didn't fit in it and the owner helped me carry. I took cold pizza for lunch and snacked on dates. It would be nice to leave some flip flops in the van so that you can take your shoes off when you are done. Otherwise it's a short drive back to the meet site and then you can change into dry clothes. Bring a GoPro camera because you will want to take pictures! I highly recommend Adventure on Purpose! We were led well but allowed to explore. We enjoyed beautiful views, great company, and felt safe as we tried new things. Would definitely do it again!

This hike/river float in a beautiful canyon near Lake Roosevelt was the best family trip we have been on in years. It is physically demanding but doable by 90% of people. The reward is fantastic views and exciting canyoneering. There is rappelling, rock waterslides, climbing, bouldering, floating and hiking. Everything! The guide is wonderful and Brian the owner is pretty good also (haha inside joke-Brians 7 yr old son was a great guide!) Brian has a wealth of knowledge about the area and is very safe and expert in guiding and taking care of his charges. Highly recommended!! Do it quickly. Spaces fill up fast!!.
