Distillery Tour

Overview

Join us for a one-hour guided tour of J. Rieger & Co., Kansas City’s iconic distillery, located in the historic Electric Park neighborhood of the East Bottoms district. Discover the history of our brand, from its founding during the wild and raucous years when the city boasted “the wettest block in the world”, to its premature demise at the dawn of Prohibition, and eventual revival in 2014, nearly a century later.

Enjoy extensive access to each phase of the distillation process, from grain to bottle. The tour will conclude with a tasting of our four core products led by one of our knowledgeable guides.

We were looking for a fun thing to do when our adult children were visiting for the holidays. We heard about the tour from a friend and booked tour tickets. What a great time. The distillery is really beautiful, our tour guide was great and we learned a lot about the history of two great Kansas City families. We enjoyed the tasting and visited the Monogram Lounge for a cocktail after the tour. What a great space. We highly recommend visiting, touring and tasting.

First, this is a really interesting story about the resurrection of a brand. Second, it’s a very well done brief history lesson on KC and the immediate area’s beginnings. Third, it’s an informative look at how a distillery works and how they make their unique liquors. Last, it’s just a completely fun time to spend with family or friends. There’s something for everyone at the distillery to see or do. To get there is an easy drive, the building is beautiful, the historic display is well done and interesting, the tour is fairly quick and also very well done, the tasting experience is great (I’d suggest you not do that on an empty stomach), and spending time afterwards in the Monogram Lounge is fun with friends. Oh, and don’t forget to go down the slide!
