Distillery Tour

Overview
Join us for a one-hour guided tour of J. Rieger & Co., Kansas City’s iconic distillery, located in the historic Electric Park neighborhood of the East Bottoms district. Discover the history of our brand, from its founding during the wild and raucous years when the city boasted “the wettest block in the world”, to its premature demise at the dawn of Prohibition, and eventual revival in 2014, nearly a century later.

Enjoy extensive access to each phase of the distillation process, from grain to bottle. The tour will conclude with a tasting of our four core products led by one of our knowledgeable guides.

I placed the J. Rieger & Co. Distillery on my vacation list at the suggestion of my sister. I decided to tour in the first week of my annual December vacation time. After allowing exploring the East Bottoms area, I arrived at the distillery in plenty of time before my scheduled tour. The area is definitely industrial based and it really shows after driving around. I believe this was my first time in this area of Kansas City. The distillery history section was really great as I enjoy reading about local Kanas City history. It covered several aspects relative to the beginnings and development of the company. It also included history of the East Bottoms. The tour consisted of a 10 minute video presentation, walking tour of the distillation room - bottling line - cask storage, a sample tasting and visit to their bars & gift shop. I liked the entire tour and was impressed with the different areas of the distillery. The tasting was well done and gave just the right opportunity to get to know each product. I liked the whiskey best. I highly recommend the plant tour or visiting the two bar areas.

Tour good. Dinner horrible experience. Couldn’t get waitress. Finally ordered a Panini that came out like burnt toast. They need some time to get their issues straightened out. I’ll give it a year before I return.

There were approx 18 of us on the tour and we watched the (very well prepared) film showing the Jacob Reiger history followed by the distillery tour. The entire experience was a very entertaining and educational piece of Kansas City history finishing with a sampling of vodka, gin, and whiskey. We had family in from Orlando and this will be an experience they'll remember for a long time. Highly recommended!!
