The whole guided tour with Steve was truly amazing. This was my favorite part of my trip! Truly unforgettable! Steve was very easy to talk with and you can tell how much he loves his dogs.

We went dog mushing the week of Christmas 2021 after Fairbanks received a huge snow and ice storm (4 feet of snow in the city alone). Our experience once we arrived at Rod’s was excellent. We found them to be very friendly and down to earth … especially Rod’s wife who took the time to talk with us and tell us all about her family and military life, and how they started their business. She was lovely! The warm gear they provide is top of the line and we felt they did an excellent job with sanitation and everything was very clean. They even put their helmets for snow machining in a sanitizer right there on the main floor. They have a smooth process for checking in and preparing for your ride. I do think they could improve in making you aware of who your guide is and with introductions. Our guide was amazing and told us all about his dogs and his mushing experience. I was conflicted about whether dogs pulling a sled filled with people was natural or not but after the experience it was evident these pups absolutely love to run and mush and they are well cared for and loved. We learned so much about how they prepare for races, what they eat and what it takes to properly care for them. After the experience we 100% understood why Rod had to cancel tours during the week of Christmas due to the crazy weather. First, those poor people had to dig themselves out and prepare trails but also keep the safety of the dogs and riders in mind. It was easy to see why the dogs couldn’t pull sleds in all that fresh snow as our feet hitting into fresh snow was challenging enough let alone the dogs sinking in it.. We absolutely loved this experience and would highly recommend Rods Alaskan Guide Service. Thank you for this wonderful experience and thank you for your service to our country and for your families sacrifices 🇺🇸❤️🐾❤️

We were worried our experience would be cancelled due to the icemageddon. However, it was not! The tour guides and operators were warm, welcoming, and had cleared out trails in the thick snow (amazing job!). All the dogs including ones on my sled team were excited and ready to go. We stopped midway to take photos and pet our dog sled team. The cold and the sleepy morning light made this an unmissable experience. Do it!

Over Christmas we received rain and 3 feet of snow that almost shut down roads and many businesses. The guides worked hard to keep trails maintained to reopen soon as road travel was safe. Thank you for choosing Rod's Alaskan Guide Service.
