Doors-Off Helicopter Lava & Rainforests Adventure from Hilo

Overview
All guests weighing 270 lbs or more when weighed at check-in, will be required to purchase an additional empty seat less 15% before fuel surcharge to safely balance the aircraft. They will be guaranteed a window seat.
The doors-off Lava & Rainforests Adventure showcases the story of how Hawai‘i is inextricably linked to the elements. You will fly over Kīlauea, what was the most active volcano on earth, and continue towards the crater that was previously Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō Vent. The windward side also catches enough rain to make Hilo the wettest city in the United States. All this water fills tunnels that once flowed with lava, creating incredible rivers, pools and waterfalls all over East Hawai’i. View Hilo’s lush rainforests, Mauna Loa’s vistas and the plunging Wai‘ānuenue (Rainbow Falls), so named for the rainbows you can see in the mist when the early morning sunshine hits the water.

Amazing tour - highly recommend the doors off tour for couple and if you are not afraid of height. It feels so good to feel breeze! It was a surprise birthday gift for my husband and he absolutely loved his first helicopter ride.

I absolutely loved the front seat. Great views, nothing interfering. Crew was caring and it felt completely safe. Plenty of beautiful views. I used the opportunity to ask lots of questions about the people living in lava fields :)

Aloha Kristi R, Mahalo for taking the time to review your experience. It is pretty incredible to see the aftermath of the 2018 Kilauea Eruption. Although the lava may not be flowing right now, it's amazing to see what the "frozen lava river" looks like now. Mahalo for choosing to Paradise Helicopters, we greatly appreciate your review! Excellent staff, pilot, and aircraft. Only criticism might be fat they charge an extra $50 or so for a guaranteed window seat, when as it turns out five out of the six seats are window seats. One of us was sitting in a rear facing window seat, having to continually turn my head 90 degrees or more to see oncoming Vistas. Those seats should be discounted.

Aloha gmcmd, The helicopter used on your tour is the Bell 407, which offers five window seats (more than any other helicopter touring company in the state of Hawaii) and has only one seat that is not next to a window. We offer a window seat option for guests who want to be prioritized for a window seat. Seating arrangements are based on a variety of factors, including weight balance, that ensure safe loading of our aircraft. While we are glad you enjoyed your tour with us we're sorry to hear that you didn't fully enjoy your seat. This model of aircraft offers limousine style seating, allowing guests to share the experience with a companion sitting across from them and offers guests to see sites coming and going. While many people enjoy this, we understand your preference. Thank you again for flying with us and taking the time to give us feedback as we do read and take all feedback into account to make sure we are doing our best to satisfy our guests. Mahalo Nui Loa, Paradise Helicopters
