Mike knew the local history well, was very attentive and personable. The food was great. The only draw back was beyond anyone's control. Visitors: mental illness in downtown LA is still very much an active & obvious problem... so those with younger families, be prepared to address and educate.

We try to do a walking food tour when we visit a city for the first time. Our trip to LA was no exception. We took this tour with Chris. We visited six or seven spots and certainly had enough food to cover us for lunch. The pastry at Pitchoun to start was the best of the food. The other stops were average to good but not excellent. We has quite potpourri of food. That’s probably representative of LA although Chris didn’t describe it as such. But there wasn’t any sort of “anchor” food. Memphis has barbecue, New Orleans has Creole. LA has no anchor, at least not on this tour. This tour either covered too much or was too short. Chris walked very fast, even through iconic sites like the Grand Central Market. There was no chance to stop and take in the scene there or even take a photo. The tour should have been half an hour longer or cut out some of the food stops to avoid practically running to keep up. At least twice half the group was left behind at a cross light while the other half had already crossed. Chris did stop a few times to give some background on certain sites on the tour. The tacos, pot stickers and ice cream were all average. The barbecue and grilled cheese sandwich were good. I suggest looking at other food tour options. There must be better ones.
