This was a very unique and challenging experience that I will remember forever. But it could have been much better.
It was never mentioned that the hike would be a backcountry-style hike. I wouldn't have minded that so much had I been told ahead of time that I should expect to be scrambling down a wash. I just felt poorly prepared and that the communication was lacking. This is absolutely the type of tour that should highly recommend wearing pants and long sleeves simply so you don't get scratched and scuffed up on the hike.
Then we got to our first rappel and it was the most difficult of all the rappels. It included descending over two ledges in a single rappel and free hanging. That is very intimidating to someone who has never done this before. I don't understand why that would be the first rappel on the tour.
Lastly, our tour guide was one of the worst guides I've ever had on an outdoor experience like this. Brandy was generally unfriendly, impatient, and downright rude at times. It is shocking that someone who works as a tour guide would so quickly treat tourists as incompetent instead of helping them feel safe and confident. She would nonchalantly and quickly go through instructions and hated having to repeat herself. She would literally let you hang there struggling, instead of offering comfort or instructions to make things easier. Everyone on our tour got banged up or bruised in some way, entirely because she wasn’t clear or helpful.
It was a truly amazing experience to go repelling near Zion, but based on my experience, I would go with just about any other tour company.
