The educational sail aboard Chicago's Official Flagship Windy departs at 11am Thursday thru Monday from Navy Pier. Leave the hustle and bustle behind, and enjoy a leisurely Educational Sail aboard Chicago’s Official Tall Ship.
Guests will enjoy 75 minute sail where they will learn about sailing and the history of Lake Michigan and Chicago. Ideal for youth groups, children, families and adults.. Chicago's history is forever linked to the history of sailing on Lake Michigan. From these historical maritime roots, guests will be delighted with interesting facts, unique stories, and a healthy dose of whimsy. You will have a chance to help sail Chicago's famous 148' Schooner and you will be rewarded with incredible scenery and photo opportunities of the Windy City.

Enjoy your time on the water — the third-largest of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan is itself a natural wonder. Your guide will provide live audio commentary throughout the journey.

We enjoyed ourselves on this cruise. The crew couldn’t be more helpful. I showed up with a ticket on my phone and it was dead. They let me charge my phone to get the ticket and left it on the charger so I would have a charge for some photos. The crew chatted about their love of sailing. We learned a lot about Chicago’s history. I highly recommend this cruise.

It was a boring trip for 75 mins. Except for the first 10 mins, of which 5 were for safety instructions and another 5 mins of opening the sails, nothing else happened. We probably went to the Chicago Lakeside Architecture Tour (going by the 5pm boat we took), but there was no explanation or activity at all. I assumed that kids would like the ship coz it's different with sails, but they were literally waiting to get out of the boat.

Good afternoon, we are sorry that you found your experience aboard the Tall Ship Windy boring. Tall Ship Windy's programming is not slated to start until June 1st. Our Skyline Sails offer a beautiful view of the city from Lake Michigan, aboard Chicago's official flagship. Windy is unique to the other vessels on the pier as she is truly a sailboat and we do rely on Mother Nature to supply us with wind for our propulsion.
