Our guide was Karl who did a great job of explaining everything we saw along with background information and history about the area. We went on an airboat trip into the swampy sawgrass that makes up the ‘river of grass’. There, we saw alligators and quite a number of birds. We took a short walk into a ‘cypress bald’ to see wildlife and plants found throughout the Everglades. Karl explained some of the beneficial uses of many of the plants along with those to avoid. We had a great lunch and then went on a boat ride to the ‘ten thousand islands’ made up of mangrove trees. While on the trip, we encountered a green sea turtle, dolphins, manatees along with numerous birds including two frigate birds. We enjoyed our trip and would do it again.

Discover the vastness and ecological complexity of the Everglades. It is a pretty full day but very worth your time if you really want to understand the essential role of the Everglades in the Floridian ecology. Karl is an outstanding guide and all the proposed activities are a lot of fun.
