Exploring the Magic of Northern New Mexico: Scenery, Pueblos and Churches

Overview
Our tour will take us north on the Camino Real, a road that connected Mexico's ancient cultures with the equally ancient cultures of the American Southwest. This Camino trail is a backdrop for countless Hollywood movies. The first stop will be at the Poeh Cultural Center in the native pueblo of Pojoaque, which translates to "water gathering place". We will visit the museum and see the hundreds of ancient pots returned to this pueblo from museums. Next we see the Nambe Pueblo and follow the trail of pilgrims to the village of Chimayo at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains Each year, more than 300,000 people of every culture visit the Santuario Shrine in hopes of miracle cures. The chapel for the Santo Niño de Atocha is on the grounds, receiving prayers for children. The famous New Mexico Red Chile served at the Rancho de Chimayó restaurant is where we will enjoy lunch. Returning to Santa Fe or Albuquerque, we see the Santa Fe Opera and it's amazing architecture.

Nambe Pueblo
Passing through the valley of ancient Pueblos and farms, back ground to countless movies through the decades
3
Chimayo
Ancient Church complex, home to the place of miracles, stunning scenery, the Ortega house of weaving.
4
Santa Fe Opera House
There have been three theatres on the present site of The Santa Fe Opera's approximately (now) 150 acres of land. Each has been located on the same site on a mesa, with the audience facing West toward an ever-changing horizon of sunsets and thunderstorms, frequently visible throughout many productions when no backdrops are used. Over the years, because of the first and second theatres' exposure to weather, rains covered audiences and orchestra members (and threatened the latter's instruments), requiring occasional cancellations, postponements, or extended intermissions.
5
Ortega's Weaving Shop
Unique southwestern designs available in vests and blankets from the Ortega family of weavers

We had a superb tour with Mae. Our favorites stops were the children's church and the marvelous scenery stops. We also appreciate the handout she shared with us on the Pueblo locations and traditions.

I spent two days with Mae Araujo , who was one of the guides for Corn Maiden Tours. The tour took place at the end of October, 2021. Mae picked me up in Santa Fe and for the next two days we experienced the Turquoise Trail which included coal mining towns, turquoise mines, , the Poeh Cultural Center, the village of Chimayo, the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the Camino Trails. Mae was an outstanding guide who was knowledgeable, flexible and extremely friendly. I do not hesitate to recommend this group whose office is in Albuquerque.

We went on 3 tours with the ladies from Corn Maiden Tours, we found them to be friendly and extremely knowledgeable. They went out of their way to be helpful, and make sure we enjoyed our trip to New Mexico. We had a wonderful time, thanks to them!!
