On this full-day adventure we journey deep into the heart of the upper Cumberland Plateau to a pristine temperate rainforest... yes... a rainforest!!

This area is among the most remote and rugged on the plateau and Honey Creek Trial is the MOST CHALLENGING in Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area. It features numerous creeks, waterfalls, cliffs, natural “rock houses”, boulder fields, tight squeezes, rope assisted climbs, rocky scrambles, steep drop offs, and amazing views.

This is a difficult and challenging adventure through rugged and steep terrain (over 1,000ft elevation change) but views and experiences make it worth every step.

This trail is poorly marked and has numerous social trails and spurs. Therefore, it is very easy to get lost and many visitors report getting lost once or even multiple times… but have no fear… our experienced guides will lead you through this enchanting landscape while also making sure you encounter all the best sights and experiences.

This trail features sections that are very rocky, steep and slippery. Sturdy, CLOSED-TOE SHOES ARE REQUIRED.
Tennessee weather tends to be unpredictable – this tour operates rain or shine so please be prepared accordingly
Must be in good physical condition, able to climb over downed trees, walk on uneven surfaces and climb in elevation
Water proof / resistant shoes and clothing are highly recommended.
Bringing a change of clothes is strongly recommended as you are very likely to get wet on this adventure.

What To Expect

Nashville

Depart your Nashville area location at 7:30am and drive approximately 3 hours northeast to hiking destination near Jamestown, TN

Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area

On this full-day adventure we journey to a pristine temperate rainforest. We will follow the Honey Creek trail and journey 5-6 miles through a rugged temperate rainforest deep into an ancient gorge packed with pristine creeks and boulders. This hike is not very long in terms of miles. However, it is very difficult and slow going. The primary trail is claimed to be 4.5 miles but with spurs and elevation changes it's closer to 5 or 6 miles. We plan to travel at about 1 mile per hour due to how difficult the terrain can be. Additionally we will take several opportunities to take in the sights, take photos, catch our breath, and enjoy some snacks.
