It was also the site of the Battle of Homestead 9 July 1892, the most consequential armed confrontation between workers and company-employed strikebreakers in American History.

Carnegie Steel's Edgar Thomson Works of the United States Steel Corporation continues to operate as the last remaining steel works in the once mighty Monongahela Valley. You'll stop to see the monument to the last slab rolled and the first slab cast before pausing to salute Joe Magarac, the Croatian Folk Hero of the Steelworker.

George was enthusiastic, informative, and knew his subject very well. He also had multiple other interesting tidbits about Pittsburgh and the area as he drove us around that we did not expect. I lived in Pittsburgh for the first 18 years of my life and thought I knew a lot about it, but George’s introspective and wide repertoire of information was fantastic! Highly recommend a tour by George.
