What To Expect

Flattop Mountain Trail
This is the perfect tour if you are looking to go on an easy hike, learn about Alaska’s vegetation and animal populations, and see one on the Chugach State Park’s most photogenic alpine valleys. We’ll start by meandering through hemlock forests scarred by thrashing leeward winds from the Turnagain Arm. Snowshoe Hares make their homes here attracting the rare lynx living in the area. Wild geraniums, bluebells, and forget-me-nots pop up In June and blissful blueberries, funky fungi, and changing colors tell us when summer is coming to a close. The flora and fauna of the Glen Alps tell us a story of an ecosystem living in harmony just outside of Anchorage. Moose and bear birth their young in spring and mate during the fall months. They travel through the mountains and valley in search of their favorite browse, providing ample opportunity for wildlife viewing and photography. Transportation included in total time of tour: (1 hour transportation & 2 hours walking)

Spent a great 2 hours with Rebecca on this great hike— emphasis was on foraging not on strenuous hiking, but Rebecca opened the world of berry picking and eating in Alaska — wonderful and informative

Our guide was Jacob who was excellent. He is very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and has a passion for what he does. Our only disappointment or surprise had to do with how the tour was advertised to us online. It was represented as a nature walk but it was more of a mild hike. Mind you, we are capable of a mild hike but based on the fact that we thought we were taking a nature walk we were not dressed appropriately for a mild hike. In fact had I known ahead of time what this excursion entailed, at this point in time I would not have booked it based on my husband‘s current health history. So I think it is important for people to know that this is more than a nature walk and involves walking on uneven and even slippery terrain at times and one must definitely dress appropriately for walking in the bush.

Hi sherry, Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. Jacob called us directly after your tour yesterday to speak about your concerns; I apologize for not following up with you sooner. He mentioned exactly what you’ve presented here. So, the first thing I did was check out your description to verify what we’re presenting reflects your comments. Our suggestions do mention that hiking/walking are the modes used during the activity, and that people should be able to walk 2 miles on uneven or hilly terrain and 3 miles on flat pavement. We mention that parts of the trail are steep and hilly, as well as that we visit the Flattop Mountain trail, which is a wilderness destination. Also, we state that people with cardiac, respiratory, joint issues, or other serious medical issues should not sign up for the tour. I appreciate your comments, but much of what you mention is indeed captured in our tour description. Please feel free to reread it if you feel what I mention is in error. What I will add to the description is that the the nature walk takes place on a dirt/rocky trail vs. a paved trail. Thanks again for joining us on the tour even if it wasn’t fully what you expected. Heard you saw a moose with calves! 🙂

We had a nice, easy hike with a young enthusiastic guide who was knowledgeable about the local flora (we didnt really see fauna) and kept the walk to our pace. We saw incredible scenery and spent a lovely morning.
