Your day begins with a 30-minute or 1-hour or airboat tour deep into the 4,200 acres (1,699 hectares) of protected swamps, marshes and rivers that make up the Central Florida Everglades. Your US Coast Guard captain will give you an in-depth look at the gators, birds, eagles, trees and plants that make up these beautiful wetlands. My airboat guide was SPEEDING UP when birds were crossing in front of the boat and hitting them. He kept talking about which animals you’re legally allowed to kill and clearly had zero regard for the wildlife. He sounded like a typical redneck who thinks it’s tough to kill animals. For a company that literally makes money off of the environment, I would think they would care about the animals. I’m sure not all of the guides were like that, but old Jethro had no problem speeding over animals in front of a front row full of little kids. The marshlands are beautiful and should be cared for by people who care. I’m never going back.

We had a great time, but I am currently using a rollator walker. I asked the attendant at the dock check-in where I should leave it for boarding the airboat. I was directed to where the rental wheelchairs were parked, which seemed fine. I didn't expect the length of the dock-- it was much, much longer than I was able to walk without assistance. The captain of the airboat recognized that I was utterly exhausted by the time we boarded the boat, and made sure a wheelchair was waiting for me upon our return, which was wonderfully kind. Unfortunately, I was so exhausted from the walk down the dock that the rest of our day was impacted. If the attendant that I first spoke with at the top of the dock would have warned us of the long walk ahead, and I had my rollator walker, our day would have been a lot more enjoyable.
