We booked this guided food tour through the New York Pass which overall represented excellent value for money. Our guide on this amazing culinary experience which stretched over four hours was Corey; a true New York - original! Borne and raised in Brooklyn, Corey knows the turf like the back of his hand and he is a true "foodie". Having previously worked in the media industry, during the financial crisis, like so many, Corey had lost his job and decided to follow his passion by offering tourists and visitors this amazing Food-Safari. The tour started off at New Yorks famed Central Station from where we took the subway train all the way out to Queens, which your ordinary tourist would probably never visit. As it turned out, there are many interesting and ethnically diverse neighbourhoods in Queens. Our food experience started in Flushing on the last stop of the 7 line with some delicious asian food ranging from unusual hot and spicy asian lamb burgers to sweet sticky duck served with a type of dumpling bun followed by some superb Sushi. We continued on the train to 90st Street Queens Jackson Height for an amazing range of street food-style tacos and some Argentinian sweets. A few blocks up Roosevelt Avenue and one suddenly finds themselves in a totally different neighbourhood with a strong Indian and Pakistani background and of course, the food they have brought to the US. Here our culinary journey ended with a tasting of some Samosas and Indian sticky sweets. All along Corey was a superb host. Full of inside knowledge, organisational ability and great communication skill, he guided us throughout the tour, making sure no one would get lost and offering heaps of advice about what to try and even which places to go to in the neighbourhoods we were staying in. Corey made sure that we all had a chance to mingle and to get know each other and so we had a fantastic time with Corey and our fellow food explorers from Germany, Italy, Australia, France and the UK.
"Team Germany" can definitely recommend the Food on Foot Tour to the West with Corey!!!
