One of the best decisions we made during our familyās trip to New Orleans was to take the Friends of the Cabildo French Quarter walking tour with Monique on the first day. We gained a greater appreciation for the tour in the days that followed when we found ourselves sharing what we learned with family members who joined us later in the week for our nieceās wedding ā from pointing out the street Walt Disney replicated for Disneyland to the intricate iron railings introduced to the city on buildings around Jackson Square. You come away from the tour with a much better understanding of the people who settled New Orleans and how it developed over more than 300 years, and in my case, interest in learning more about some of the topics that were covered, like the Battle of New Orleans. Moniqueās energy and passion for the authentic history of New Orleans was infectious. She had more to share than could be contained in a 2-hour tour, yet was attentive to answering questions on subjects that were of greatest interest to our family, resulting in a very memorable walk. The fact that the tour guides are volunteers, and the tours contribute to a non-profit supporting the Louisiana State Museums, made the experience even more rewarding.
