Having traveled to Maui many times over the years and having not snorkled Molokini, we decided to book this tour. The tour was a mix of good and not so good. First the good; The boat was comfortable with the option to sit above in the sun or down below in the shade. If you are prone to sea sickness, choose sitting down below. The crew was extremely accomodating and friendly and genuinly wanted to make sure you have a good experience. The breakfast was really good and provided enough options for everyone. They serve hot scrambled eggs, and a variety of other fresh pastries, donuts and muffins. The snorkling at Molokini was great. The crew gave plenty of instruction and there was plenty of time to enjoy snorkling the reefs with lots of fish and other occasional sea creatures if you're lucky. It is safe if you follow directions and there are lifeguards both in the water and watching from the boat. On our boat, you had the option to "snuba" dive (similar to scuba but you are attached to an air line) but it is recommended that you check and book this in advance. After leaving Molokini, lunch was served. This was when our trip became not so good. They served a lunch with the choice of BBQ chicken or a pulled pork sandwich; cole slaw and a cookie. We chose the pulled pork, which did not have a pleasant taste; was not fully cooked and was cold. The cole slaw was good and in hindsight, we should have tried the chicken sandwich or just ate the cole slaw. They did serve a cookie that was really good but small. And that was all you got .. just 1 cookie.
When we got to Turtletown, it was announced that you had to swim a fairly good distance to get to where the turtles were. They made it clear that it was enough distance that yiu should be careful to swim to them but "leave enough in the tank" to swim back. Although my wife and I are both in good physical condition and good swimmers, we gauged that the distance was far enough and in moving tide and waves, that we would not chance doing this on our own and put the crew to task of having to come and get us. We already saw some of the lifeguards having to take a board out to some of the folks that did not think this through well enough, to bring them back. We did not want to inconvenience the crew and the rest of the folks taking the tour to put ourselves in this position. We were disappointed that the tour had not thought this through and offer a way for them to lead folks like ourselves to see the turtles, so we did not get to experience this part of the tour. We were also disappointed with the onboard photographer, whom we were told would take pictures of folks as they snorkled and offer pictures for an extra cost. He spent most of his time with just one couple and basically ignored the rest of us. Guess the couple must have tipped him on the side pretty well .... very disappointing. After Turtle Town on the way back to port, the Captain called out a few sights and some interesting info around the islands of Lanai and Molokai which we enjoyed. After all was said and done we can say that although disappointed a bit, we would take the tour again but would limit it to just Molokini and spend our time snorkling there and forego Turtle Town. The price was fair for what we received.
