What To Expect

Sun & Salt Adventures Hawaii

Your first stop of the day will be at our store in town Kailua. Here you will sign your safety waivers, receive your lunch, dry bag and snorkel gear and be given a safety briefing by your guide as to what to expect on your tour. Your Guide will show you the simple & easy technique of loading your kayak onto your vehicle using soft foam racks and straps. From here, we will proceed over to Kailua Beach Park, where you tour will begin.

Kailua Beach Park

Here is where you will launch your kayaks into the waters off of Kailua Beach to start your adventure. You will spend a few minutes on the beach practicing proper paddling and safety techniques before actually getting into the water. From this area you will get a first glimpse of you're destination, the beautiful island of Moku Nui. This is also where you will return to at the end of your tour before coming back to our shop.

Lanikai Beach

You will pass by Lanikai Beach on your way to and from the island of Moku Nui. This world famous beach is know for it soft white sand and abundance of marine life in its waters. While passing this beach, be sure to keep an eye out for sea turtles that like to graze among the local corals.

Mokulua Islands

A 45 min. to 1 hr. scenic paddle takes you to the Seabird Sanctuary that is the Mokulua Islands. Frequently visited by Sea Turtles and Hawaiian Monk Seals, the island offers an unparalleled, unique snorkeling or kayak surfing experience! Your lifeguard trained guide will help you discover the island. Where wave conditions permitting, they’ll take you to a hidden secret cove, where you’ll go cliff jumping and snorkeling and then go for a short walk and enjoy a soak in the Queens Bath Tide Pools, named after Queen Kapiolani who loved this area.

Excellent in every possible way!. My wife and I were picked up from our hotel and our driver, Valiant, was also our guide for the day. Valiant was very friendly, helpful, fun and informative and having Valiant as our guide and driver made it the best, most fun and unforgettable experience we've ever had !. Bob Twogood ( the owner ) made us feel very welcome and comfortable as soon as we arrived at their shop/base and he explained everything to us in a very clear and friendly way. Valiant and Bob were very understanding about my wife being a bit nervous as it was her first time to go kayaking and they very kindly offered that my wife could share a double kayak with Valiant, our guide, which no doubt made a world of difference and made my wife's first Kayaking experience, the best experience in her life !. Valiant explained things to us in a very clear and easy to understand way and he told us about a lot of interesting things about the history of the area and he connection between the mythology and the science of the area and Hawaii in general. We went to Lanikai, which is a very beautiful beach and Valiant took us on short guided tour and showed us some of the beautiful homes there. I really recommend that every visitor to Oahu does a tour like this and this is definitely something that is not to be missed and hopefully you will also be as lucky as we were and have Valiant as your guide !. A perfect 10 of 10 !!!

This kayak tour of the Mokulua Islands is something not to be missed. It is exceptional value, as it includes collection and return to your Waikiki Hotel, the friendliest and most professional tour guides, Josh and Will, and some fabulous information from the manager Jurgen , together with valuable input from owner Bob Twogood From start to finish, if you like the outdoors, and kayaking, this is the tour for you. Transport is in a people mover - comfortable, functional, and safe. When you arrive at Kailuha Beach, you are met by Jurgen the manager, who is very professional,friendly, and has very sound information to share with those about to kayak. Bob the owner, also spoke with us, and helped us decide to change tours, and we are so grateful we did. The experience itself was unique. It was a superb weather day, and still had some moments despite our kayaking background in sydney, that had us wondering if we would be one of the few to have the dubious pleasure of capsizing. On saying this, at no time did we feel anything but safe. The kayaks are of the ocean faring variety, and very stable. If you listen to one of the superb guides, you cannot go wrong - so the message here is not to simply do your own thing...these professionals know what they are doing, and they do it extremely well. Exploring the Island and learning more of the history behind the Mokulua islands and Oahu was an added extra we were not expecting, and Will had a great local knowledge. We finished with snorkelling off the famous Lanakai Beach, and it was magical, irrespective of the fact the sea turtles did not want to be seen on that day. We hope Bob realises what great staff he has in Jurgen , William and Josh, and would like to thank him and them all for the outstanding day we had. We extend our sincere gratitude to the team at Twogood kayaking . Do yourself a massive favour and take one of their many tourists if you like this type of adventure...you will not regret it.

We had a great time, but know this - the kayaking is HARD WORK!!! It is 2.2 miles each way so don't do this tour if you tire easily. Too, wear/rent water shoes, as the terrain once you get the island is pretty rough. All- and -all, it was a lot of fun and our guide, Jordan, was awesome.
