What To Expect

Matanuska Glacier

Matanuska Glacier is a valley glacier in the US state of Alaska. At 27 miles long by 4 miles wide, it is the largest glacier accessible by car in the United States. The drive to is approximately 2 hours each direction with 4 hours total along the scenic Glenn Hwy.

Glenn Highway

The Glenn Highway National Scenic Byway follows a path carved by ancient glaciers. Following the braided Matanuska River for over half its length.

Palmer

During the tour we will stop in Palmer Alaska and allow you time to purchase lunch at a local grocery store. Just 45 minutes from Anchorage, this picturesque little town has agriculture flair. Start your adventure in this ‘country' at the Palmer Visitor Information Center. Don't forget to pick up a downtown walking map while you're there.

An amazing experience! Jason, our guide, was really great! He was informative and helpful. The 2 hour drive in goes quickly with your guide giving you lots of information. You stop once on the way to pick up food for a later lunch. A separate guide takes you through the glacier. You get equipped with cleat shoe covers, walking sticks and helmets. You shoes will get wet and muddy so waterproof boots are preferred. It was a sunny day in June and I was fine in a long sleeve shirt and windbreaker coat as you are moving a lot. I felt safe as I went around the glacier terrain. Lots of time for pictures. You get about 2 hours on the glacier. On the way back, we stopped for lunch at a picnic area overlooking the glacier. Such a great time! High recommend!

I had the best experience on this glacier walk tour!!! Our driver Jason was the best tour guide you can ever imagine! Not only drove us safely but also gave us a lot of information about Anchorage, the glacier, wildlife and more. He also made stops along the route for us to take pictures and watch wildlife with his binoculars. I would definitely do this tour again!

We enjoyed the awesome adventure of walking on a Glacier. Our amazing driver, Jason, stopped and showed us sheep and told us many interesting facts. We would highly recommend this tour to others.
