Ghosts of Charleston Night-Time Walking Tour with Unitarian Church Graveyard

Overview
Come walk with us on The Ghosts of Charleston walking tour, leaving nightly from Buxton Books, Charleston’s independent bookstore located at 160 King Street.

Our licensed guides are expert storytellers who lead you through centuries old alleys and paths while sharing stories and solid history from Julian Buxton’s best-selling book, The Ghosts of Charleston. The true tales of intrigue, tragedy, and lost love reveal a rich underside of Charleston’s character that isn’t apparent during the day.

The highlight of your tour is our exclusive nighttime access to the 18th century Unitarian Church Graveyard, where you will experience something magical. The Ghosts of Charleston is Buxton Books’ signature and most popular book-based walking tour -- a favorite of visitors and locals for over 23 years.

What To Expect
1
Tour Charleston
During our 90 minute walking ghost tour, our City of Charleston licensed tour guides recount hauntings and supernatural events from our best-selling book The Ghosts of Charleston. We are fortunate to have many repeat guests, and lots of tales to share, so we switch things up nightly by varying ghosts stories on every tour. There is no experience like walking enchanted Charleston at night, listening to our supernatural stories, and encountering what you will see and hear in the Unitarian Church Graveyard.
2
Unitarian Church in Charleston
The highlight of Tour Charleston's Ghosts of Charleston Tour is entering the lush, spellbinding Unitarian Church Graveyard built in 1772. Real time hauntings occur only a handful of times a year. However, since 1996, when we started what is now Charleston's oldest ghost tour, spirits in the Unitarian Church Graveyard have reached out to many people on our tour in visual, tactile and auditory ways.

Rhett was by far one of the best ghost tour guides we have ever had. He spoke with such skill and he really draws you into the stories he’s sharing. His knowledge of Charleston and the history of the city was truly amazing. I have personally been on several ghost tours in Charleston and have never had such a great experience before. I highly recommend this tour, especially if Rhett is your guide!

This tour was amazing! Simon was our guide, and he MADE the tour. He told us 5 ghost stories based on stories from the book The Ghosts of Charleston by Julian T. Buxton III. We stopped at the Powder Magazine, in front of St. Philips Church, down Philadelphia Alley, and then had exclusive access to the Unitarian Church graveyard at night. We did the 9:30pm tour on a Thursday night and there were 13 people in our group. Simon told us to take lots of pictures and helped us to know what we were looking for in those pics to see signs of light that were "not manmade light". Simon was a captivating historical storyteller and I highly recommend this tour!

Simon made the tour terrific with his superb story telling ability. This was our first ghost tour but it will be hard to beat for our next tour guide. Although we personally didn't experience any ghosts (didn't expect to either)it was a very enjoyable evening.
