What To Expect
1
Moonshine Gulch Saloon
South Dakota has a reputation for its Wild West past, but has come a long way since the days of fast gun slingers, illegal gambling, and riding around town on horseback. Despite these advances, there are still a few nods to our “wild” past, including this old-time SD saloon. The western rock band - Big and Rich filmed their video "Big Time" here.
2
Bridal Veil Falls
Cascading approximately 60 feet, Bridal Veil Falls is the most accessible waterfall in the canyon. The Falls flows intensely in the spring and slows considerably in late summer and fall. it is located adjacent to a large parking lot to accommodate sightseers.
3
Spearfish Falls
Spearfish Falls is slightly off the beaten path, but well worth the walk. It is located in the heart of Spearfish Canyon near the Savoy area. The trail to the waterfall begins on the north side the Latchstring Inn restaurant and guides you to the bottom of the canyon where it takes you to the roaring waters of Spearfish Falls. Be sure to wear good shoes as the trail can be slippery at times.
4
Roughlock Falls State Nature Area
Its idyllic setting in a side canyon to Spearfish Canyon makes Roughlock Falls one of the Black Hills most beautiful areas and also one the area's most-photographed spots. Created by Little Spearfish Creek, the creek flows down a spectacular chasm, then tumbles off a 50-foot limestone ledge in a series of lacy cascades. A popular destination for decades, the newly-improved walkways offer easy access to this wonderland. It is also known as one of the few places in where one can view the American Dipper, a rare bird that can both walk and swim under the cool, flowing waters. There are shady picnic facilities and restrooms, along with trails, catwalks and amazingly designed viewing nodes. Here we stop for a picnic lunch (included with the tour).
5
Deadwood
Deadwood is a city in South Dakota known for its gold rush history. We will visit Mount Moriah Cemetery (graves of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane). After a brief tour of No. 10 Saloon and the downtown, guests will have time to self-tour Main Street and witness the 2:00pm Gunfight.
6
Nemo
An old mining and lumber town that lies along a serene back country road. We stop for a brief break at the old General Store.

We can’t brag enough about how much we loved the tour! Charlie was our guide, and he was awesome! He was so knowledgeable and easy going. He provided a great picnic lunch at a beautiful spot. The open top Jeep is great! The views were spectacular! We have been to the Hill many times and thought we had seen most everything, but this was so relaxing to sit back and enjoy the beauty with so much better views than we have ever had! We would so much recommend anyone to try it! You won’t be disappointed!

Hi Rachel - I'm happy you enjoyed your tour with Charlie. He is a South Dakotan and has been exploring the Black Hills for many years. He knows a lot of out of the way places many do not get to see. Thanks for your review. Be Well- Rich

Excellent experience thanks to Rich, the owner, and Mike, our expert tour guide and driver!! Worth every penny to see the amazing sights of Custer State Park and not have to stress over driving! Up close, yet safe, views of so many bison! Kids got to feed wild, yet friendly, burros at another stop. Amazing scenic views along Iron Mountain Road and Needles Hwy! Enjoyed picnic in secluded, beautiful location. Fascinating information that only true locals & experts in the area can provide. Very relaxed pace with private jeep tour! This was our 20th wedding anniversary gift to ourselves and it was totally worth it!! Mike kept us & two kids entertained and safe for a six hour day of pure fun! They pick you up and return you to your hotel. We cannot recommend Black Hills Open Top Tours more highly! 😊 We are not new to the Black Hills (our 3rd trip) and we wish we had done this sooner!

Howdy LMT - Thank you for taking time for your very kind review. Congratulations on your 20th! I'm happy could enjoy our good weather and you found the wildlife on the tour. Mike has been with us for several years and as a local knows a lot about the region. And he's great with kids. On your next visit . . . maybe an open-top-van tour of Spearfish Canyon and the Northern Hills? Once again thanks for your review I will share with Mike. Be Well - Rich
