We opted to take the train to the Grand Canyon. We chose Coach seats which were fine and the best price. We did not know that there were two trains leaving. We were booked for 9:30 and told to be at the station by 8:30. We arrived at 8:30 but left at 10 instead of 9:30. The train ride is long about 2.5 hours. Each train car has a host/hostess. There is a lot of talking by the host. Telling you rules, facts about things you see along the way, what to do when you get to the Canyon and to not miss the return train. It was a little much. Our host was not very fluid in the presentation and mispronounced words. I'm a tour guide at an historical site, so maybe I'm more critical about presentation. The host was very nice and helpful but needed more polish. The entertainment was fine and a little campy. I'm sure the kids liked it. We opted out of the train photograph - glad we did when we heard the price. Bring lots of dollars because there's a lot of tipping - the musicians, the train robbers, the host. We did not use the Cafe Car but it is cash only. Travel light but bring a small backpack with snacks and water. Overall, you end up with about 3.5 hours at the Grand Canyon. We would drive next time. We had enough time to walk the South Rim trail but we didn't do it leisurely due to the time constraints. Considering the cost and time, it's a one time adventure for us. If you want to really enjoy the Canyon, drive.

they do what you expect, it is up to you to decide which class you are going to travel in, its only a 2 1/2 hour ride each way, the train has a snack shop that is reasonably priced, they have several forms of entertainment that travel thru the cars, each car has a host that will explain things to you, we had Kathy with a k, what a marvelous hostess, there are bathrooms on the train and water, you have more than enough time to walk around the south rim of the grand canyon, there are restaurants and snack bars there that are believe it or not reasonably priced, you don't have time to hike down the canyon but plenty of time to walk as far as you want down the trails, if your health doesn't permit you can sit and enjoy the view or take the bus tour, everyone from the ticket agents to the train staff were great and polite, we sat in coach and had a great time, family of 4. we saw deer, elk and train robbers, great trip as we combined it with the hotel across the parking lot. would highly recommend this train ride.

Our first trip to Grand Canyon the trip was definitely worth it. was so glad we got the chance to experience it. Cristina, our host was super friendly and entertaining. She was also helpful in giving us tips of what to do and which places to visit. All the staff made us feel a true western experience with robbers, sheriff, and singing entertainers. Would recommend this trip to others!
