Grand Ole Opry

The venue has continued to be a hotbed for introducing new talent, both bands and solo musicians, and has boosted the careers of hundreds of famous country musicians. It is also the home base for the United States' longest-running live radio show.

You have to go here! I am not a Country Music Fan, but this is a must-do. With an announcer who facilitates the show, which is broadcast on a local am station, this is a throwback-type variety show. On a packed Tuesday night, there were 12 acts with different varieties of pop-country, country, Mariachi, acapella, acoustic, etc. I enjoyed the Sisterhood (with Rod Stewart’s daughter), Striking Matches, and Rascal Flats. The acoustics are terrific and the whole experience was amazing.

Why even visit Nashville without seeing this iconic venue? I don’t even listen to most Country Music but the Opry found a way to mix in all of the good stuff that makes Country music so beautiful with the raw and unfiltered talent of their musicians. If you love or even just like music, go. The church pew seating of that place has held many a people having a good time. I hope they can find a way to never update it.

This was my first time at the Grand Ole Opry. All of the performers were very good, but I had hoped to hear more from Scotty McCrary, as he was the headliner. I think he sang only 5 songs. I wished that there had been less time spent talking by the MC (who was very good) and Larry Gatlin, as well as one of the other performers (a lady). The show ended at 8:58pm. At least go over 9pm, rather than end it early.
