Granite Reef Kayaking Trip on the Lower Salt River

Overview
The trip is a scenic, unguided, four and a half hour kayaking journey down the Lower Salt River. Starting at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, you and your group will kayak down a leisurely thirteen mile stretch of river as it moves it's way through the Tonto National Forest. Participants often witness wild horses, otters, birds and other wildlife that cool off in the river during the summer months.

We have the special privilege of being the only kayak rental company located right on the Salt River, so our trips launch directly from our site which you are returned to via shuttle after your trip. Each reservation includes a kayak rental, paddle, PFD and return shuttle to starting site.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to launch time so you may complete waivers, prepare belongings, receive safety orientation prior to the scheduled launch time.  Water, sunscreen and dry bags are for sale. Orientation is mandatory and includes basic paddling, water safety and geography of the river.

Nice relaxing day out enjoying the beauty of Mother Earth. Always a spectacular site when the horses are out.

This was my fifth kayak trip through Saguaro Lake Ranch, and like all the other trips before, it did not disappoint. We brought our parents with us for their first time, and they just loved it. We had a few other friends join, and it was one guy's first time kayaking. He caught on quickly a s had a great time. We saw more wild horses along the river than we ever had before and even spotted the elusive river otters that we had heard about. The 4.5 Granite Reef trip adds more paddling, but we just love to get out on the river earlier than the commercial tubers. This is a great operation, and I would highly recommend it. They make parking a breeze, give a brief overview on kayaking, provide equipment that is in great condition, and offer an air conditioned shuttle at the end. With all that taken care of, all you have to do is show up with proper gear (closed toed shoes, etc) and enjoy your time. Keep in mind that it's important to secure your belongings - should you choose to bring your phone, keys, ID etc. with you. On each trip we have done someone in the group has fallen out and we have seen keys, phones, wallets, IDs, hats, and flip flops lost to the river.

I highly recommend the staff at Saguaro Lake Ranch to get you on your tubing or kayaking way. Plenty of parking and restrooms. Staff is very friendly from check in to pick up. The scenery down the river is beautiful. We saw lots of wild horses and plenty of other wild life. This is an awesome experience and a nice escape from the city.
