Granite Reef Kayaking Trip on the Lower Salt River

Overview
The trip is a scenic, unguided, four and a half hour kayaking journey down the Lower Salt River. Starting at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, you and your group will kayak down a leisurely thirteen mile stretch of river as it moves it's way through the Tonto National Forest. Participants often witness wild horses, otters, birds and other wildlife that cool off in the river during the summer months.

We have the special privilege of being the only kayak rental company located right on the Salt River, so our trips launch directly from our site which you are returned to via shuttle after your trip. Each reservation includes a kayak rental, paddle, PFD and return shuttle to starting site.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to launch time so you may complete waivers, prepare belongings, receive safety orientation prior to the scheduled launch time.  Water, sunscreen and dry bags are for sale. Orientation is mandatory and includes basic paddling, water safety and geography of the river.

The entire trip was simple and relaxing. Once you arrive, you walk down to the river, they take you through a 5 minute orientation, and then you pull your kayak into the water. 2 hours later, you are at the take out point. I strongly recommend you take the earlier trips (we signed up for the 7:30). By the end, the river was pretty crowded. Other than that, we had a great time.

Great kayaking trip down the river. Saw wild horses, variety of birds, and a coyote on our float! When we finished we found a grassy area near the put-in and had a picnic. Fun!

Fun and beautiful! We enjoyed the river and wildlife around us! The trip was easy and challenging at the same time. We got to see horses, vultures, ducks and many species of singing birds. Very peaceful!
