Granite Reef Kayaking Trip on the Lower Salt River

Overview
The trip is a scenic, unguided, four and a half hour kayaking journey down the Lower Salt River. Starting at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, you and your group will kayak down a leisurely thirteen mile stretch of river as it moves it's way through the Tonto National Forest. Participants often witness wild horses, otters, birds and other wildlife that cool off in the river during the summer months.

We have the special privilege of being the only kayak rental company located right on the Salt River, so our trips launch directly from our site which you are returned to via shuttle after your trip. Each reservation includes a kayak rental, paddle, PFD and return shuttle to starting site.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to launch time so you may complete waivers, prepare belongings, receive safety orientation prior to the scheduled launch time.  Water, sunscreen and dry bags are for sale. Orientation is mandatory and includes basic paddling, water safety and geography of the river.

From start to finish this was a wonderful excursion. Perfect weather, gorgeous scenery, waters that had enough rapids to keep us working but plenty of calm "float" time to just absorb the views and scenery around us. The wild horses were awesome to see and the surprise parachuters added to the exhilaration of the trip. It was a trip full of activity and serenity. I look forward to doing it again.

From start to finish, this was an amazing trip! The Ranch was organized and thorough with their review of safety and landmarks. From our launch at the Ranch it was nothing but amazing views! We came across several herds of wild horses and even had some cross the river in front of us. The water was cool and refreshing, the current was strong enough that it required steering more than a hard paddle most of the way. There were plenty of places to get out and stand if need be. The last stretch, where they pick you up could easily be missed if you're not watching for it. The van they pick you up in is well kept and air conditioned. It's a 4.5 hour trip and we had a few tip overs in our group, so it took closer to 5 hours to complete. There are also several spots of rippling water, but not white water by any means. Just enough to keep you excited about the trip. Highly recommend this trip!

One of my very favorite places EVER. John, Shawn-alee, and Andrew are the perfect hosts. I'll be back for sure.
