Granite Reef Kayaking Trip on the Lower Salt River

Overview

The trip is a scenic, unguided, four and a half hour kayaking journey down the Lower Salt River. Starting at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, you and your group will kayak down a leisurely thirteen mile stretch of river as it moves it's way through the Tonto National Forest. Participants often witness wild horses, otters, birds and other wildlife that cool off in the river during the summer months.

We have the special privilege of being the only kayak rental company located right on the Salt River, so our trips launch directly from our site which you are returned to via shuttle after your trip. Each reservation includes a kayak rental, paddle, PFD and return shuttle to starting site.

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to launch time so you may complete waivers, prepare belongings, receive safety orientation prior to the scheduled launch time. Water, sunscreen and dry bags are for sale. Orientation is mandatory and includes basic paddling, water safety and geography of the river.

What a beautiful trip! The scenery was fabulous and seeing the wild horses of the Salt River made the experience even more memorable.

Kayaking on the Salt River with SLR is my favorite activity in the area! I’ve done the shorter kayak trip, the lake trip in the winter, and the Granite Reef trip many times and I love them all. The price is great and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. Thanks for providing this opportunity!

A cool trip on a hot day. Good equipment. Check in and orientation were great. Saw several groups of horses, tons of birds and wonderful canyon walls. Took us just over 3 hours to arrive at Granite Reef. Took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get picked up after I called twice and another couple called once.
