Group SUP Lessons

Overview
Goofy Foot was established in Lahaina, Maui in April, 1994 by the Owner/Instructor Tim Sherer to perpetuate his relationship with Mother Ocean and to teach the ancient Hawaiian sport of surfing.

Our SUP lessons take place in Lahaina in our beautiful reef protected lagoon graced with a lot of marine life. Turtle sightings are common as are Hawaiian Monk seals in their natural habitat. Monk seals are on the endangered species list.

Learn the basic fundamentals of standup paddling along with condition assessment, ocean awareness, risk management, and even self-rescue techniques. Do this while enjoying the beauty of viewing the island from off shore and exploring the underwater reef environment.

Kids 9 years and under are required to take a private lesson on their own or a semi-private with their family/friends.

I had a private SUP lesson with Keith and had a fantastic time. Even when my knees were shaking first time standing up on the board in the water he made it all seem ok. Keith combines his excellent instruction with humour, facts, stories and sense of respect. We saw turtles up close which was just wonderful. The photos were great too. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this company. Great way to learn about Maui too. Great team - you guys rock.

Our experience was excellent! Keith was such a patient instructor, and everyone in our group was standing up by halfway through the lesson. They give you pictures of your lesson, which were awesome (though who wants to see themselves in a bathing suit). One of the best things we did on the island!

My 50 year old parents and I did a Stand Up Paddle lesson. First time any of us had surfed or been on a board! We tried some boogie board a few days before, we were awful. We all stood up on the paddle boards, but my dad took a tumble and was content to stay on his knees for the rest of the lesson. A couple of us even rode some of the smaller waves like a surfer! If my parents can get past their bad knees and SUP for the first time, then I'm sure a huge variety of people are capable of it! It is very taxing on your ankles and knees, that's where all the balance comes from. Taylor was great, switched out our boards when one of us was struggling standing. Lots of tips on shore that we put into practice for the next hour and a half. Perfect amount of time for a lesson. I think this is the best value of any Maui activity we did on this trip. $80, comes with 100+ photos from their photographer from shore, a hat, and discounts on future rentals.
