Group Surf Lesson at Kalapaki Beach

Overview

We’ve been teaching surfing since 1983 on Kauai’s best learning beach, Kalapaki Beach. Learn how to paddle and balance on your board and master the basics. We offer small classes, expert surf instructors, and the best gear including a board, leash and rash guard. With gentle trade winds and the protection of Kalapaki Bay, the surf is always up! Kalapaki is a beginner/intermediate reef break. All participants must be able to swim. Minimum age is 10 years old.

Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
Must be able to swim.
Must be able to paddle a surf board back to the instructor independently.

We were a family of five wanting to enjoy the Hawaiian surf. As Canadians with no surfing experience, we weren't sure how well we would do. The Kauai Beach Boys were great. Our instructor were clear, helpful, easy to follow, and helped us all understand technic and how to read the waves. We're happy to say that all 5 of us were able to ride the waves!!! The experience was fabulous!!!

We did a surf lesson on our last day in Kauai. It was a memorable experience and certainly a lot of fun. That said, I do wish that we had gotten a bit more help from the instructor. Pretty much everyone there was surfing for their first time and there was a broad range of physical abilities yet the instructor pretty much assumed that everyone was at the same level and didn't provide assistance when folks were clearly struggling.

Aloha! Thank you very much for surfing with us and taking time to review our lessons. Yes, paddling is the most difficult part of surfing, and Kalapaki is a beginner intermediate reef break, which means we surf further out in the deep water. For our group lessons all participants need to be able to paddle back out to the instructor on their own. And the bigger the surf , the more paddling needs to happen! We do offer private lessons, when instructor is able to help participants back out. Aloha!
