We wanted to try something new that involved being outside and exploring a part of the island we'd never seen. Kayaking fit the bill. My husband and I had never been kayaking before so we needed friendly experience guides with good equipment. Amelia Island Kayak Excursions fit the bill!
We met our charismatic guide, Aaron, at the Melton Nelson Boat Ramp just before 10 am an overcast day. He and his assistant adjusted our kayaking vests and and gave us our paddles. Then we jumped into our single kayaks. A family with a couple of young boys opted for the double kayaks.
Aaron assured us that we'd figure out paddling and navigation when we got into the water and he was right! We happily paddled down the calm water past a baby alligator, turtles, and a man sitting by his dock with his dog. During a snack and water break, Aaron talked to us about the ecology of the river, the alligators and identified some of the plants we'd seen. An active railroad trestle provided a perfect backdrop for Aaron to take pictures of us which were lated posted on Amelia Island Kayak Excursion Page.
We pulled back into the boat launch about two hours after we'd left having experienced something new. Would we go again? For sure!
