Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon is a quiet, special place off the beaten path just outside of beautiful Kanab. The quiet serenity of beautiful colored Navajo Sandstone rocks that have taken millions of years to form will take your breath away and leave you wanting more.

This is a group tour, but no combination of groups will exceed 10 travelers so that we can keep the experience affordable and intimate.

What To Expect

Peek-A-Boo Slot Canyon

On this group tour, (no more than 10 people to keep it affordable and intimate) you will explore the beauty and wonder of Peek a Boo Slot canyon in Kanab, Utah. It's an easy 1.5 mile (2.4K) hike roundtrip through a spectacular slot canyon located about 10 miles north of Kanab. This is a must see while in the Kanab area.

While our guide, Coyote, was great, this excursion was very poorly planned. Rather than walking through a slot canyon most of the experience was driving. It was like going to an amusement park attraction. We were finished in an hour for what I think was to be a half day.

Marsha, although we are deeply saddened that you didn’t enjoy the tour, and by this review, we thank you for taking the time to write it. Coyote was surprised that this was how you felt about the tour. He enjoyed meeting you both. He also felt the tour was well organized and ran smoothly and on time. For future guests, we feel there need to be a few clarifications based on the details of this review: 1- we do agree that Coyote is a great guide! 2- this is listed as a 2-3 hour tour on our Viator listing. Although we do offer Peekaboo in half and full day packages with other sites, this particular tour has always been sold as a 2-3 hour round trip tour from Kanab. It is the same tour all of the local outfitters offer, however, we generally take a little longer than most in the canyon because we have a great time taking pictures, and explaining some of the features. 2- this particular tour started at the pick up place on time at 8:00 am and ended at the same place at 10:45, exactly as it is listed. 3- the time walking in the slot canyon is usually 45 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. This tour was right on track for that time frame. This review reads as if we didn’t spend any time walking in the slot. That is not an accurate or fair description of the activity. 4- a good portion of the peekaboo tour is walking in the canyon, but each way there is about 25 minutes of off road driving on 3.5 miles of deep sand after a 10 minute drive up the highway from Kanab. That is the main reason we offer a guide service to this canyon, the deep sand. We offer this tour at about a $25-50 per person discount off the other guide options in town. We are a very small business with low overhead. I am also a teacher and we have 7 children. We are very sensitive to the cost of travel, and try to make some of these excursions more affordable for people. Almost all of our guests have been very grateful for that effort on our part. Yes we could charge more and do well, but we try to make this as great of a deal as we can afford for our guests. 5- when people are a little faster hikers, we will often offer a couple of drop by sites on the way home. Coyote took this couple to 2 additional sites and a drive through Best Friends Animal Sanctuary on the way home. Their tour could have been 2:15 minutes, but Coyote took them to the extra spots just to give them a little more because he had some time before his 11:00 tour. The 2:15 minute tour would have been within the promised tour length, as was the 2:45 minutes the tour actually took. The claim that the tour was over in an hour is simply an impossibility. It is advertised as a 2-3 hour tour round trip. There is no literature anywhere that promises Peekaboo to be a half day tour. No company promises that. The canyon is easily hiked and is .75 miles each way. It is a beautiful canyon, All of that is stated in our advertisement on this venue. All of the other companies offer a 2 hour Peekaboo tour. Most offer combos as well, but on this venue if you see a Peekaboo for $100-128, it is basically the exact same tour we offer for $76 as our current rate. 6- this guest took a guided canyoneering tour from one of the other outfitters. That tour was listed as a half day tour. Ours is not listed for that length or as a canyoneering tour. We do offer that same canyon as a half day canyoneering tour as well. We guide canyoneering tours in a variety of canyons in the area, but that is not what was advertised, or purchased in this case. 7- we try to be as transparent and reasonable as we can. By the last line of this review it appears the guest may have confused the two advertisements because that canyoneering tour is a half day for all of us who guide it, however Peekaboo is not a half day for either of the companies she worked with in this area. 8- the ride is a little bit bumpy for sure. Most love and appreciate it. We try to make that ride as comfortable as we can in our jeeps, suburban, and our new lifted van. We have a great time! For us, this business is not a cash cow. It is a labor of love. It takes some money to stay in business with the high cost of insurance and repairs, and to pay our friends who help us guide. However, we try to run our business on a slim margin and according to the principles of a quote by Thomas Monson: “Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved.” As sorry as we are that Marsha didn’t enjoy her tour, and that she felt inclined to hurt our business with a mean spirited review, we enjoyed meeting her. We wish she would have addressed us with her concerns directly, because we would have done all we could to help her to feel better about the tour. Unfortunately, in this case we don’t know exactly what to fix. Her complaints seem to be about items we have little control over. The tour started and ended on time. The guide was “great” and the tour was exactly what was advertised plus a couple of extra quick sites. As Coyote said, we can’t make the slot canyon any longer than it is. All of the local outfitting companies guide Peekaboo. We charge less than most of them, we take great care in whom we hire to guide our guests, and we maintain our vehicles as quickly as needs arise on these rugged roads. Although we’ve had a couple of tours that didn’t go exactly as planned in our 5 years of business, this one went exactly as advertised. We would hope this review might be taken down because of some of the inaccuracies in its claim, but if it isn’t, we wanted a chance to address them. My apologies for the long reply. It impacts us deeply if a guest doesn’t enjoy our portion of their vacation. We love helping people enjoy this whole area. We were taken completely off guard by Marsha’s review. We hope you consider our other reviews as you choose a guide for the area. We would love to share any of the sites with you!

One of the best tours we’ve been on. Coyote was our guide. He was wonderful. We went at our own pace. We never felt rushed. He took several pictures for us. We had some extra time and he took us to see other great sights close by. We will definitely use this tour company again and will look forward to having Coyote be our guide again.
