Guided Horseback Riding Adventure on the Flame Azalea Trail

Overview
Ride on horseback following your guide through a hardwood and enchanting white pine forest sprinkled with azaleas before you emerge into an open meadow on top of the mountain.

You reach 4,200 feet in elevation here and are treated to sweeping 30 mile views out to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Also, be on the lookout for wildlife, including deer, chipmunks, turkey, hawks and raptors of all types soaring above.

On the descent, you travel past the Old Fort Lodge area — a former youth camp established in 1960 — before ending your ride back at the stables of this 200-acre working horse farm.

Be sure to bring your camera. These are memories you want to treasure forever.

The Azalea Trail ride will be challenging to first time riders, if unfamiliar with horses and uneven terrain. That said, our guide CJ was ever vigilant as to the needs and status of his riders. He ensured that for every step that you were in control and also aware of what you were seeing around you. This was a true trail ride, with one small window vista; the majority of the ride was in the woods.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Along the mountain top ridge, there are views out from the pines on your left which are very pretty. Then you enter an open meadow with views out to the Blue Ridge Parkway. They are truly awesome. Then you do slip back into the woods for loop back to the stables.

We love this family owned business. They treat their horses and clients very well. Their training before the rides is very extensive.

We had such an amazing experience! Our guide was extremely helpful and patient and made sure we enjoyed every minute. He matched us to the perfect horses, made sure we were comfortable and kept my 7 year old son safe and happy near him. A beautiful background to an incredible activity - we highly recommend.
