Guided Snorkel Tour for Beginners in Honolulu. Your experience should be an ā€œA,ā€ if you read this first. Iā€™ll try to keep this as short as possible. Communication from Try Scuba Diving: Grade F. I signed up for the class on Trip Advisor. I received an email with a bunch of information (see below). A day or two before the event, I get a text from Try Scuba Diving asking for my email address. I responded with a question ā€“ are you snorkel or did I sign up for the wrong class? (I did not realize that this was the name of the company.) No response. I get another text. This time I just gave them my email. No response. Then I get a call from someone in Puerto Rico that my email didnā€™t work. I responded with another email address. Now I have multiple emails from them. I filled out their releases and everything seemed OK. Here is the part I really have trouble with: They say in their emails to me: ā€œPLEASE CHECK IN 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO YOUR SCHEDULED TOUR TIME. IF CHECK IN IS LATER THAN 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO TOUR TIME THEN WE WILL TRY TO RE-SCHEDULE FOR A FEE IF AVAILABLE. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARRIVE ON TIME. TOURS BEGIN PROMPTLY AT EACH SCHEDULED TOUR TIME. Follow these instructions carefully 1. Your independent dive professional will be at the dive site (Magic Island) at the FAR SOUTH END OF THE PARK 2. Park anywhere as parking is free. 3. Walk to the back of the parking lot and through the grass field ( We are not allowed to have signage at the beach, so please refer to map for easy directions) Please do not ask Lifeguards for directions, as they are on duty. 4. We do have lockers on site, but store at your own risk, we are not responsible for any damaged or stolen property. Your dive pro will be waiting for you there. Please make sure you are wearing a swim suit. ā€¢ Bikini, board shorts, bathing suit, swim trunks, shorts and t-shirt are all acceptable.* What to bring ā€¢ TOWEL: to dry off ā€¢ SMART PHONE: to download pics and videos (MUST BE FULLY CHARGED) ā€¢ CASH: to tip your dive proā€ Problems with this message: 1. They provide a map of exactly where to check in (at the FAR SOUTH END OF THE PARK), but there was nobody there. There is no sign to look for as they stated in their message. There was another couple waiting at the same place. Now, Iā€™m not happy at all. After their previous communication, this is just another insult. 2. I walk over to a guy with a bunch of scuba equipment and ask him. He doesnā€™t have any information, but says my instructor will be over soon. Not good. If I have to be there 30 minutes early, shouldnā€™t my instructor be there too? 3. They say in the message that they have no locker, so my wife did not bring her hearing aids. I did not bring my glasses. Neither of us brought dry clothes. But, the instructor had a locker ā€“ with a lock! Pretty safe. Had we known that we had some degree of safety, we would have brought these things. We brought my phone because I had set up the event. So, to get there, I had to open my phone, but my wife had to read everything because I couldnā€™t. Frustrating for me. If I wanted to talk to her, I had to yell. Frustrating for both of us. During the initial briefing, she couldnā€™t hear anything. I had to repeat for her. She hates this because she is not getting 100% and this was a real problem in grade school for her. When we finish, we have no dry clothes. Iā€™m not getting in an Uber with a wet swimming suit. So, we walk (45 minutes) back to our hotel with very little cash left over. I left a tip. 4. The primary message I understood from this email was BRING CASH for a TIP. I did. At the end of the message, they say: Try Scuba Diving offers scuba dive and snorkel tours, which are provided by separate and independent contracted dive professionals. Try Scuba Diving does not operate, control, or otherwise provide the services of the independent dive professionals. Essentially, this tells me that, ā€™If you have a bad experience it is not our fault.ā€™ Great. Why am I paying you again? The Actual Class and Instruction. Grade A. Our instructor (name intentionally left out) was great. He took time to work with us and make sure that we had a great experience. He explained things as he went along ā€“ things that were not covered on the boat/snorkel tour that we did later on our vacation. The lagoon where the class was held is perfect. No big waves. Plenty of sea life to view. Pictures and video provide free after class. The mask and snorkel provided were the best we used all week. The life jacket that I got barely fit. I guess I have gained a little weight,...That one is on me. We wore water shoes and I suggest you get some at the ABC store if you did not bring them with you. You will be glad you did. Fins were not provided. I think they are not appropriate for a beginner snorkel class. They say you don't need prior swimming experience, but I think you should have some. There was a couple in our group that dropped out. I think he had a phobia about,...having is face in the water? Not sure, but he did not know about swimming. When I am trying something new, I like to start small. This was a perfect class to see if we were interested in snorkeling. We were! Love Snorkeling! Canā€™t wait to do it again. If you have never snorkeled, take the class. You will be glad you did. We are totally out of shape and had a great time. If you have snorkeled before, move on ā€“ this class is not for you. If you take the class, be ready for crappy communication from Try Scuba Diving. Look past this communication and think about a great instructor in a great place providing you a great learning experience with snorkeling.

Zola was very knowledgeable on the basics of snorkeling and make sure to capture memories for our whole group. We loved the videos he captured of the area and how he made sure we all got a chance to experience the reefs.
