The Wharf

The Wharf’s Ferris Wheel Known as a landmark for every Gulf Coast beach vacation, that first glimpse of The Wharf’s Ferris wheel — one of the tallest in the Southeast — means you’ve arrived. The wheel is also wheelchair accessible! In addition, The Wharf is an official Entertainment District with hundreds of family friendly events throughout the year, including the nightly SPECTRA Laser Light Experience show. FORT MORGAN HISTORIC SITE

Since 1834 Fort Morgan has stood as the guardian of Mobile Bay. The military site and National Historic Landmark is located 22 miles west of Gulf Shores. Construction began in 1819, but due to its isolated location, the fort was not completed until 1834. Skilled masons, many of which were enslaved African Americans, built the fortification which contains more than 46 million cubic yards of bricks. Fort Morgan was active during the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II.

Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

Visit the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and meet the 300 animals that call it home as you explore its 25 acres, including a walkthrough aviary and sustainable garden. The giraffes, lemurs, sloths, lions, tigers, reptiles, wolves, and a host of other beautiful creatures serve as the perfect ambassadors for their counterparts in the wild. Hands-on Adventures available at an additional cost include South American Adventure (sloths, macaws, tortoises), Destination: Madagascar (lemurs), Giraffe feedings, and Coola Springs Walkabout (kangaroos) as well as the Soaring Eagle Zipline, safari cars, train, and carousel.

The Fort Morgan adventure was amazing! We walked on the very steps where the war of 1812 was fought. After 200 years this Fort still stands with the personal stories of the 2000 soldiers who endured the war. Also, 3000 Indians during the removal of their homes were placed in this Fort on their journey West. The story of the15 years that it took to build this Fort by so many is extraordinary! It stands right on the beach of the Gulf.
