We participated in this tour on August 30th, and were more than pleased. The van picked us up at our hotel promptly at 1:45 a.m. (after getting up so early, we would have been a bit peeved if they were late!). They took us to the bike shop, where we were able to get outfitted with helmets, fleece, windbreakers and rain pants. *Note: We brought our own layers - I wore jeans, and layered with a t-shirt, light "packable" down jacket, rain jacket, and added a hat and gloves. I was comfortable - but the folks in sandals and shorts were freezing! At any rate, they took us up to the summit, narrating and providing directional tips along the way to make sure that we would not get lost coming back down on the bikes. The summit was amazing! We were rewarded with an absolutely spectacular sunrise. Later, the van took us to the outside of the park (no one is allowed to depart directly from the summit on bikes - not the company's rules, but the park's). The bikes were great. Don't worry if you are not a super athlete. My husband is 64, I am 56, and were rode the 23 miles without any problem. You are essentially coasting the entire time, enjoying the views, and the fragrant aroma of eucalyptus, lavendar, and flowers. We stopped at a cafe for breakfast, then arrived back at the shop at about 9:30. So I am totally rambling here - but have to say that we were very pleased with this tour, they are efficient, they make sure everyone is safe, and it was truly memorable. Sign up early - they will fill up, and you will miss out otherwise.
