We booked the sunrise self guided tour. My husband mountain bikes at home so this was his dream tour. We equally wanted to see the sunrise at Haleakala. The booking system was really easy and the communication was seamless. The directions are easy to follow and when we booked in we were informed on exactly what to do. The best thing is the staff are so helpful and friendly especially at 3am in the morning!!! They provided strong coffee and we all set off in our own minibuses. We had Dan as our driver and Billy as our guide. They were both so informative and knowledgeable about the tour, directions, Hawaiian culture and more. Throughout the whole journey everything was explained perfectly and in a good way. Although this is because of the tour but the sunrise was incredible and the bike ride down was great fun! Would highly recommend this company to do this tour!! Thanks!

Based off of previous reviews on this activity, I knew it was going to be fun. But boy did I underestimate my level of enjoyment. Waking up at 2am wasn't the easiest but it was worth the fatigue to see the sunrise from the top of Haleakala, above the clouds. I appreciated the company suggestions of where to stop for breakfast on the way down (Kula Lodge). The thrill of riding downhill at such high speeds was really exciting as well--and I am just a leisurely rider with no mountain biking experience. A few things that stuck out to me that I would want to mention to others: Wear warm clothes because at 10,000 feet elevation, it can be chilly. Dress in layers because you will get warm as you decrease in elevation. Wear gloves. The company provides vests, rain coats, backpacks and gloves if you'd like to borrow them. We chose not to take the gloves but regretted that decision as we came down the volcano. I would highly recommend this adventure as it truly was my favorite part of my Maui vacation.

Bike Maui Tours has the Haleakala Sunrise Self-guided Bike Tour down to a hospitable science! From filling us with coffee at our 3 am arrival, to equipping us with literally everything we needed, to pointing out every turn with precision, we were excellently prepared for our excursion! Enjoying a perfect sunrise and a delightful breakfast at Kula Lodge on our descent were icing on the cake! One piece of advice: dress in lots of layers! It is cold and windy up top, but quickly warms on the bike ride down the mountain. Thank you, Bike Maui, for a great morning! We had a blast!
